[Huckabee says that gay marriage is so illegal because it’s confusing.](http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/huckabee_same_sex_marriage_is_illegal_because_it_s_left_the_country_in_a_state_of_confusion) So Wednesday, he says an overturned SCOTUS ruling from 18-fuckity-fuck is still law, and today he says that an active ruling isn’t really the law. The job he’s applying for is to be the guy who executes the law of the land. Maybe he’s unclear on what ‘execute’ means in this context. ---

_Dred Scott v. Sanford_ is not an “overturned” decision, it stood, AFAIK, until slavery was eliminated via Am. XIII, which made the meat of the ruling irrelevant. But, really, what is this hard-on the Rs have for the '50s and the wonderful antebellum days of slavery? These guys really need to get called on this. ---

“Overturned” may be the wrong word, but how about nullified, negated, rejected, thrown in the shit-pile of history, pushing up daisies, as relevant as the Code of Hammurabi, or fucked-off-with forever, amen? ---

Well, I think the parts of it not nullified by the Reconstruction Amendments did continue to be considered good law, and there’s probably one clause of the opinion left that’s still current case law. So, no, it wasn’t actually “overturned” in that sense. I don’t think that’s what Huckabee is talking about, though. ---

There is, I understand, an ultra-hard-core view that only the original Constitution as ratified is truly God’s word, not any of the human-created, wordly _amendments_. It’s possible Huck is one of those, but it’s far more possible he’s pandering to his talk-show audience in hopes of higher ratings when he returns to Fox. ---

A jar of formaldehyde and some outsourcing security to Walmart’s loss prevention division is likely to meet Huck’s idea of a strict, constructionist approach to the our Constitution. ---

Walker ["blames Obama’s ‘absence of leadership’ for attacks on cops](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3233302/Scott-Walker-blames-Obama-attacks-cops-says-president-contributed-anti-police-environment.html)." And claims that the increasing attacks show how Obama doesn’t respect the police. This from the governor who’s been working at cutting police benefits and their rights to collective bargaining (so, ultimately, their wages). The last line of the article: However, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, police shooting deaths are actually down 26 percent this year, compared to the same period last year. So, not only are his conclusions wrong, but his facts are, too (though compared to a fence to keep out those crafty Canadians, this is tame). ---
