Well,historically, that tactic only put one guy in the White House, so there’s really very little precedent for a candidate to expect such a “seekrit plan” approach to actually gain him anything. ---

A fair case can be made that JFK squeaked into the Oval Office with a bogus “missile gap” talking point. Which he knew wasn’t true, and which then had the extra advantage of promising to fix something that wasn’t there to begin with!
