Okay – you don’t think the other part is racist?

It should be noted that some people [question whether the plaintiff has standing](http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/12/01/3726446/the-supreme-courts-set-to-hear-one-of-the-biggest-race-cases-in-years-it-has-no-business-doing-so/) in this case.

> [@](#):
>
> The attorneys for Abigail Fisher, the sole plaintiff in this attack on affirmative action, failed to take actions other affirmative action plaintiffs took to preserve their right to be in court in the first place — and this may prove their undoing now that Fisher is before the justices once again.
>
> Though the Court’s conservative majority was widely expected to rule in Fisher’s favor after they first heard her case in 2012, they instead surprised most court-watchers by sending the case back to the conservative United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. If the conservative justices expected the Fifth Circuit to strike down UT’s admissions policy for them, however, they were disappointed. A divided panel of that court upheld the program again in 2014. It’s now 2015, and Fisher’s college career is over. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2012.
>
> That, combined with errors by her lawyers, may prove fatal to her case. As UT argues in its brief, Fisher’s request to be admitted in the University of Texas became moot upon her graduation from LSU — she no longer seeks to be admitted into an undergraduate program now that she has a bachelor’s degree. Recall that a plaintiff in not allowed in court unless they’ve experienced an injury that can be “redressed by a favorable decision.” But a favorable decision by the Supreme Court will not allow her to go back in time and attend UT.
>
> Alternatively, Fisher also seeks “monetary damages in the form of refund of application fees and all associated expenses” — specifically, the $100 she paid when she applied to UT. Yet the university also makes a strong case that this injury cannot be addressed by a favorable decision. “While obtaining a $100 damages award might provide some ‘psychic satisfaction,'” to Fisher, UT explains in its brief, the Constitution requires her to show “that the requested relief will redress the alleged injury.” Here, however, the alleged injury is the fact that she was not admitted into the university (or, alternatively, the fact that she was evaluated under an allegedly unconstitutional process), but the $100 fee bears no relationship to this injury. To the contrary, she “would have paid the application fees even if UT had not considered race at all—and even if she had been admitted.”

I don’t see where he’s saying anything about the quality of black scientists. On the other hand, he is incredibly dense to conclude that the reason you don’t see many black scientists from prestigious southern schools is because they voluntarily chose not to go there. It’s kind of like saying you didn’t see a lot of black major league baseball players in the 40’s because they preferred the slower-paced Negro Leagues.

He does seems to be saying that they are too slow to complete a course of study anywhere but at the “lesser schools”. Now, maybe he thinks they catch up just fine after a time, but I’m not seeing that in the section quoted.

Deciding to crank up the racism [knob to 11](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o), Donald Trump claims that he thinks he can win [93% of the black vote, with a goal of 100%](https://www.yahoo.com/politics/donald-trump-has-a-huge-1317867072716854.html).

Particularly interesting was this snippet from someone in his inner circle, that states:

> [@Donald Trump's inner circle member Michael Cohen](#):

> According to Cohen, Trump needs to win black voters because other minority groups won’t support him: “The truth, yeah, I’m trying to coordinate it because I am mindful of the fact that, you know, there are coalitions and I’m talking about now like Hispanic coalitions that … will not support Trump. _ **And that’s OK because the ones that don’t like Trump aren’t even here legally and they can’t vote, so it doesn’t really matter, right?** _

Emphasis mine. What I love is how the headline for the article says “Donald Trump has a plan to win ‘100 percent’ of the black vote and prove he’s not racist,” and his campaign immediately says that Latinos won’t vote for him because they aren’t “here legally and they can’t vote, so it doesn’t really matter, right?”

This is kind of like the echo-chamber mentality that we saw in 2012, where Republicans were convinced that the polls were skewed. Someday, somebody on the Trump campaign is going to actually count the number of legal, registered Hispanics, and they’re going to puke.

Hopefully on the Wednesday after the election to figure out why they lost by so much 😃

From what I understand, legal immigrants do not automatically gain the right to vote merely by immigrating legally. In order to be able to vote, you must be a legal citizen, and I believe there are a fair number of legal immigrants who have not yet attained citizenship. I could be wrong about this.

[Over 12 million Latinos voted in 2012](http://www.pewhispanic.org/2013/06/03/inside-the-2012-latino-electorate/). So there are lots of Latino citizens in the United States, who register and vote.

Just how long ago did you take political science/government/civics? (Or whatever they were calling it back then?)

Of course one must be a citizen to vote.

However–and this may shock you–there are a fair number of Latinos who were _born here_. Down here we have some whose ancestors crossed That River before most of mine crossed That Ocean. But, because of their appearance, some of the more retrograde xenophobes assume they’re wetbacks. (Or rapists, drug dealers, whatever The Donald is pushing now.)

That’s entirely possible. At the very least, I would assume they have to register like natural citizens. But that seems to be immaterial here. His assertion is that he won’t get the Latino vote because, going back to his earlier speech, Latinos are here illegally, and can’t vote, anyway, so what they think doesn’t matter.

He didn’t qualify it by saying _some Latinos_, _a number of Latinos_, or any other descriptor. He said “they.” The only way to take that is that he thinks that _ALL_ Latinos are in this country illegally. And, since the Latinos don’t vote because they’re all illegals, who gives a shit what they think or want?

The actual phrasing is that the ones _who don’t like him_ are in the country illegally.

So, Trump’s expecting to get 100% of the Hispanic vote, too, because the ones who are able to vote like him.
