Granted, an attorney general or solicitor general is hardly the same as a random lawyer, but there’s a big difference between “Ted Cruz decided that X would be a good idea and supports X” and “Ted Cruz made legal arguments in favor of X”. And for that matter, there’s a big difference between a law which is really really stupid (like banning dildos) and a law which is actively discriminatory. That said, Ted Cruz might actually support such a ridiculous position. ---
