You don’t vote for teams.

The [Ladies of the Lake](https://www.google.com/search?q=dallas+cowboys+cheerleaders&biw=1920&bih=961&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwio48OeqJzMAhWB2T4KHSGvBFAQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=oCmcPwd3-2LBAM%3A), their arms clad in the purest shimmering polyester, held aloft a Lombardi Trophy from the bosom of the confetti. Signifying that, by Divine Providence that I, Jerry Jones, was to carry the Cowboys through decent periods to the now-stinging mediocrity of having Tony Romo as a starting quarterback. The only thing more embarrassing would be having [Captain Butt-Fumble](http://giphy.com/gifs/transparent-funny-football-WhgzxMgOewnVS) leading this group!

That is why this is America’s Team!

:dubious: Supreme sports prestige derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical boob-shaking ceremony!

Not that there’s any meaningful difference . . .

Not so much removal but requalification with new standards, tons of paperwork, and government oversight – brought to you by the party that hypocritically claims to be in favor of the opposite. And a bunch of schools won’t be able to qualify; but it’s the poor so screw 'em.

Not quite stupid idea but how about vile dog whistle of the day.

[On NPR’s morning edition today](http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/carl-paladino-trump-exterminator-raccoons-basement)

[QUOTE=Trump surrogate Carl Paladino]
“People that get onto the Trump bus are very, very frustrated with their government,” said Paladino, who ran unsuccessfully for New York governor in 2010. “It doesn’t matter what kind of person is the exterminator, OK? They want the raccoons out of the basement.”
[/QUOTE]

Hmmm. I wonder why he chose that [particular varmint](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=508625)to get rid of?

I heard that interview, and the raccoons comment might have been the least “WTF?” comment he made. That guy is Trump’s spokesman in NY??

ETA: Holy crap, I just re-listened and he was the GOP candidate for governor in 2010. His rant against Obama was… not subtle.

Wasn’t there some kind of video scandal or something with him? He sent subordinates emails with bestiality videos in them or something?

ETA: Someone else is going to have to search. I’m not looking for that on a work computer!

The [first Google result](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/12/carl-paladinos-emails-tea_n_534691.html) is entitled “Carl Paladino’s Emails: Tea Party-Backed Gov Candidate’s Emails Feature Racism, Bestiality, Porn”. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Well, with porn.

The [transcript](http://www.npr.org/2016/04/20/474935485/new-york-primary-win-propels-trump-into-next-weeks-contests) of the Paladino interview is up on [NPR.org](http://NPR.org). He was being interviewed by David Greene. Notice that Greene didn’t even ask about Obama:

> [@](#):
>
> GREENE: That sounds pretty dramatic. You’re saying if they stood in [Trump’s] way, if he did indeed have a delegate argument, that it would be the end of the [Republican] party as you know it.
>
> PALADINO: Well, you’ve got to look at the intensity of the people that are supporting Donald Trump. This is a political revolution. This is not an election - not your everyday type of election. This thing is very meaningful, OK? We’re talking about ridding the party of the establishment class - ridding Washington of the Washington elite monsters that have given us this illicit government that people just can’t stomach any more.
>
> That festering anger has been going on for many years in the minds of the - what we used to call the silent majority. And they’re not silent anymore. Now they’re the vocal majority. And they’re pretty upset over what’s been happening in America. They give us a guy like Obama, and we’ve had to tolerate incompetence. We’ve had to tolerate his biases. But **a man who in every respect looks like he despises America is the leader of America**. And this is disgusting. He’s so into himself that he just - he can’t help himself. And how did a guy like this rise to that point of being president of the wonder of history and of the world?

But I chuckled a little bit at Greene’s response to the raccoon analogy:

> [@](#):
>
> PALADINO: People that get onto this bus, the Donald Trump bus, are people that are very, very frustrated with their government as it’s been. That’s the most important thing. It doesn’t matter what kind of person is the exterminator, OK? They want the raccoons out of the basement.
>
> GREENE: We’ll have to stop there…

News flash, Carl: They’re not the majority any more, either. In Nixon’s day they were, but times and generations and culture and demographics have changed.

Like the 'Moral Majority", ‘majority’ is a word they use to convince themselves that pretty much everyone thinks like they do, they’re just being repressed by the evil people on the other side of the issue.

But clearly, the bigots are getting angry and upset because the tide hasn’t just turned, it’s rolling right over them and they can’t get away with their shit as much anymore.

I’m a firm believer in equality and justice for all, and I mean ALL, and I just don’t get their idea that working to create that justice and equality means they are being diminished. More like they’re being told to stop being assholes and they’re getting angry about it.

Tough shit.
