True story: A guy who had been a friend for many years completely stopped talking to me (and has kept it up for nearly 15 years) when we argued about allowing everyone to carry guns on planes, shortly after 9-11. He said that if he had been on one of those planes with a gun, nobody would have been killed except the terrorists. I said I don’t care if you’re the Olympic pistol champ, if you’re in row 32 and I’m in row 5, I can kill the people in front of me and beside me without even leaving my seat, and you wouldn’t have any idea where the shots are coming from, let alone be able to stop me. I thought what I said was self-evident, but he found it offensive enough to cut me out of his life. I survived the loss. ---

Hickok was an exception.
