I think “a significant day” in the quote was meant to modify Independence Day, not 240th, i.e. it’s SO important that you should know the number as a matter of course. ---

Hell, I don’t know which Bastille Day this is going to be even if I know which year **s** it celebrates. Had to work it out on my fingers and errything. (it’s a trick. It’s not 1789. It’s 1789 AND 1790, the day of the _Fête de la Fédération_ celebrating the abolition of social classes & unity of all French people. Now you know ! Astonish your friends ! Ruin a party that had been going well so far with obscure trivia !) ---
