As a child in the 60’s, I was very confused to learn that there was a racist joke that black people like watermelon. In my mind, watermelon was the food of the gods - who doesn’t love watermelon? 😕

Aww, the single parent and her two children look so sad. Their future must be so uncertain with her working two jobs as law firm partner and Depression-era itinerant fruit picker.

Compared to the single person, she’s dirt-poor. Barely able to afford a nanny _and_ a maid.
And do you realize the shame of driving a 2 year old Mercedes?

Rush Limbaugh complains about consent being the magic word in sex.

> **[Limbaugh: The Left Sends Out "The Rape Police" Whenever There's Sex With "No...](https://www.mediamatters.org/rush-limbaugh/limbaugh-left-sends-out-rape-police-whenever-theres-sex-no-consent-also-known-rape)**

> RUSH LIMBAUGH: You know what the magic word, the only thing that matters in American sexual mores today is? One thing. You can do anything, the left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent. If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it's perfectly fine. Whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there's no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left.
>

Why yes, Rush, it _is_ the magic word. Because sex without consent is _rape_.

I dimly recall a satire about Paris Hilton writing a children’s book. It began, “Once upon a time, there was a very poor family. The father was poor, the mother was poor, even the butler was poor.”

My favorite is the anxious retired couple with an income of 180K. Sure, 52K of that is investment income, just like most retired people enjoy. But that still leaves almost 130K to be made up in Social Security and, what, pensions?

I’m near the New Hampshire border, so even though I’m in Massachusetts, I still have to listen to their stupid political ads. Specifically, the Kelly Ayotte ads. I can’t be arsed with finding the actual radio ad, but the gist is this:

“The world is a horribly dangerous place. 90 countries have endured terrorist attacks. And Kelly Ayotte will fling her actual body in front of any threatened New Hampshire residents. Meanwhile, Maggie Hassan approves of the “disastrous” treaty with Iran”

a. While not actually 0, the probability of terror attacks from radical Islamics is a risk that a rational New Hampshire resident should put well below things like lacking health insurance, plowing into moose on a dark highway, or being mistaken for a deer by hunters. Let’s face it, after the Seabrook nuclear power plant, the biggest target of opportunity in New Hampshire is probably the L. L. Bean outlet store in North Conway.

b. In term of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the US had three options. Maintaining the economic sanctions wasn’t working. Actual military intervention/regime overthrow has just worked wonders in the past to avoid inciting terrorism from the Middle East. So maybe it was time to try a diplomatic solution that didn’t involve making firm enemies of yet another Islamic nation?

In other words, all Ayotte has going for her is fear. [And apparently, she’s not as worried about non-domestic threats as she appears to be.](http://www.senatemajority.com/2016/04/uncategorized/asleep-at-the-switch-ayotte-missed-nearly-half-of-her-homeland-security-hearings/)

That sounds exactly like the Republican Party-financed ad running against the local Democratic incumbent Congressman. “He supported the Iran deal, which gave them billions (yes, billions) of dollars to spend on nuclear weapons because they support terrorism”. Or something like that.

When I watch cable TV, I see about five ads an hour attacking my local state senator for voting for a 35% raise and new government office buildings.

Yeah, about that raise. They raised their salary to $31,110 per year. And our state senator is retired from his former career as a mechanical engineer.

The Republican guy promises to “undermine Obamacare” but make insurance cheaper by allowing Insurance companies to offer crap plans again. Oh, he doesn’t say that, he says he’ll offer Insurance companies _incentives_.

Basically his entire policy is ‘screw public financing of anything, we’ll just pile on tax incentives for everything and magic will happen’.

Oh, and those office building?

> **[Minnesota’s new Senate offices — the building that became a campaign theme —...](https://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2015/10/minnesotas-new-senate-offices-building-became-campaign-theme-are-almost-read/)**

> “We were sensitive to the criticisms that it was going to be a ‘luxury office building,’” said project manager Vic Thorstenson. Even so, the project remains political.

Basically, the existing capital building needs a complete overhaul and they were already short of space. But the Republicans of course insisted that they could just keep working in the capital building while it was overhauled. You know, months without water in the building, things like that. :smack:

That does not make me feel better. Walk backs like that are usually a sign that he accidentally told the truth the first time.

I swear to og, if Democrats retake the Senate, the first order of business should be the nuclear option. Shut the Republicans out of any say in governing in the Senate. The GOP is a malignancy on the Republic, and if they are the only alternative, we are better off with one party. I see no reason to even try to work with them.

Comes the day, when all Americans are truly equal in the eyes of the law, and being poor does not necessarily mean being sick and miserable. When green energy abounds, cheap, safe, and available, and we have an economy geared towards people, not grinding our planet into cheap, loud and shiny crap.

The next day, some dipshit will propose an English as second language program for gay whales. On that day, I shall be a conservative. Because, at long last, I’ll have something worth conserving.
