Not Republican (more like Russian) idiocy per se, though there is a connection to the Liberty Caucus. But the local CBS station in Atlanta ran an investigation of Pizzagate and wanted to know why it isn’t being seriously reported by the mainstream media. Just because it was illegal does not mean it is not valid. Hastert did not receive what he paid for (silence), hence the other party is in breach of contract and liable for the value paid. If we dismiss contracts just because they are criminal in nature, society will collapse. ---

[/quote] It’s a little more understandable (although still appalling) from the linked article’s account of it as a **response** to his victim’s lawsuit against Hastert. See, Hastert paid $1.7M of a promised $3.5M in hush money before the whole sordid story blew, and now the victim is suing Hastert for the rest of the promised sum, and Hastert in response is saying nah, contract broken, in fact you should give back the money you already got. ---
