Possibly the opposite of stupid, and a tad startling

“I’m sick of (healthcare)” struck me as ironic or oxymoronic or paradoxical or … help me out here. The “shot their wad” part, according to his office, was a reference to muskets, because Mormons are never vulgar.

In other words, they’ve discovered that threatening the ACA is not as popular a move as they thought it would be.

Instead of rallying their base, it ended up educating that base that the ACA and “Obamacare” are actually the same thing, undoing all of the effort that was put into confusing people.

Regarding “shot their wad”, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hatch had no idea of the derivation of that particular colloquialism.

Huh? I’ve understood it to refer to musket fire as well. I think the “load of semen” sense is later and derivative.

Republicans be trolling their own for anger again.

That story about the Texas Imam who reportedly said they won’t help others during the flooding because they’re infidels?

[Seems the guy in the picture is from Canada and has never been to Texas.](http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-41147572)

The funny part is: “The story was published on 31 August on the website America’s Last Line of Defense, which calls itself satirical.” and was shared over 130,000 times, mostly by angry Conservatives who are apparently too fucking stupid to know they were sharing satire.

Reminds me of a bit last week where some conservative guy said, without a hint of irony “You know how you make a Conservative angry? Lie to them.” Their entire fucking media is designed to make them angry by lying to them. It isn’t anyone else doing it.

FWIW, from article:

>
> “Contrary to what has been reported in the media, Secretary Pablos did not decline the minister’s offer, but instead made sure Quebec made contact with the proper Texas state agency,”a spokesman for the Texas secretary of state’s office said. She added: “The Quebec Government’s office in Houston is in constant contact with local authorities and is arranging for emergency supplies to be shipped shortly.”

Cited with a grain of salt, of course, pending on whether they’ll actually follow through on this.

I think people satirizing conservatives need to realize that the line has shifted, and that no matter how stupid they make it, some jackass is gonna believe it. There is no such thing as conservative satire any more. There’s just fake news.

Presuming that you’re talking about “The Last Line of Defense” website, here is the text of their disclaimer:

> [@](#):
>
> DISCLAIMER: America’s Last Line of Defense is a satirical publication that may sometimes appear to be telling the truth. We assure you that’s not the case. We present fiction as fact and our sources don’t actually exist. Names that represent actual people and places are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and do not in any way depict reality.
>
> In other words, if you believe this crap you’re a real dumbass.

The “About Us” page goes on to say:

> [@](#):
>
> In a cynical world where the news of the day often seems fake, The Last Line of Defense offers today’s busy conservative a place to go to read things they’ll enjoy and congregate with a bunch of people they agree with. So while everything on this site is a satirical work of fiction, we are proud to present it to those who will have called it real anyway.

Are the Republicans now in denial about the complete obstructionism they engaged in during the Obama administration?

This morning on [NPR’s Morning Edition](http://www.npr.org/2017/09/05/548576337/news-brief-dacas-future-congress-weighs-harvey-recovery-response#), the interviewer told Jeff Denham (R-CA) that Obama issued the DACA Executive Order because Congress was completely uncooperative, and Denham flat out said, “That’s not true!” He strongly implied that Obama would have gotten plenty of cooperation from the Pubs (if he had bothered to try) and said this should have been a bipartisan law. He said that Congress will now save the Dreamers the way Obama should have. Grrr.

So this is where they start to rewrite history and paint Obama as an authoritarian, out of control, megalomaniac who arbitrarily choose to ignore a Congress that would have happily and willingly worked with him.

There is some truth to the assertion that Obama didn’t do enough ass-licking and dick-sucking on Capitol Hill, but I don’t think it would have made Mitch McConnell and/or the Freedom Caucus any more cooperative. Obama’s big mistake was assuming Congress were civilized gentlemen like himself and that they gave a fuck about the country. His bad. Who knew Being President While Black would be impossible.

They’ve been trying that brand of spin ever since ACA. This is nothing new.

But it’s also the approach they \*have \*to take now to find a politically safe way to do what’s right - put DACA into law and beyond Trump’s reach. You just have to hold your nose when you visit the sausage factory.
