I was prepared to actually defend Paul Ryan when I clicked on the headline: [Social media users slam Ryan for tweet on $1.50 pay hike](http://thehill.com/homenews/house/372165-ryan-slammed-for-tweet-on-gop-tax-bill). I thought 1.50 an hour isn’t nothing. Except that Paul Ryan was patting himself on the back for a teacher getting 1.50 more PER WEEK. He has since deleted the post. ---

I expect a lot more good people to be abandoning ship before the takeover of the Justice Department is complete; good people don’t stick around to start goosestepping and trading in their black suits for brown shirts. They used to say when fascism comes to America, it’ll be wrapped in a flag, carrying a gun, and holding a Bible… used to because with the Tea Party, Trump, and the alt-right, backed by evangelicals and the NRA, it’s already happened. It’ll just take some time for the institutions that are being eroded to be so thoroughly corrupted that no one can miss the totalitarianism anymore. ---

I should add that when I saw that tweet, I assumed the person had taken creative license with (i.e., just made up or greatly exaggerated) the amount the Koch Brothers would save. However, it turns out to be exactly the number you get when you divide [this estimate](https://americansfortaxfairness.org/analysis-koch-brothers-get-1-billion-tax-cut-law-helped-pass/) of up to 1.4 billion dollars per year by 52 weeks! ---
