Depends, is it a taxing tablespoon or a spending tablespoon ?

> But I think that’s a fairly recent phenomenon, maybe starting with the corporate raiders of the 80’s?

1976, actually, according to [Roger Martin](http://www.forbes.com/sites/stevedenning/2011/11/28/maximizing-shareholder-value-the-dumbest-idea-in-the-world/) author of a book, _Fixing the Game_, about the shareholder revolution and its implications:

> [@](#):
>
> Martin says that the trouble began in 1976 when finance professor Michael Jensen and Dean William Meckling of the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester published a seemingly innocuous paper in the Journal of Financial Economics entitled “Theory of the Firm: Managerial Behavior, Agency Costs and Ownership Structure.”

He says that since then, company management has focused on the “expectations game” of managing the markets’ expectations of performance as reflected in the stock price. He compares this to a football coach betting on his team’s performance against the spread.

ETA: Although the article refers to this practice as the “dumbest idea in the world” I don’t think it’s a dumb _Republican_ idea, nor is it really timely. Just continuing the tangential conversation.

The stupid part is that he seems to have made a significant success of his business after he left school, so fudging his academic credentials looks like a petty and pointless exercise. Own it, dude.

Heh - I said “fudging”.

> Lawmaker Apologizes After Sending Outrageous Anti-Obama Email

“A Kansas Republican leader under fire for sending an email invoking a bible verse to suggest that Democratic President Barack Obama’s “days be few in number” apologized on Thursday but said that he would not resign.”
He says he was just referring to political longevity, not advocating assassination of the Pres.
The article later notes: The following verse reads, “May his children be orphans and his wife a widow.”
Moron redux…

This reminds of the comedian Dom Irrera who had a bit about Italians negating anything bad they might say about someone by adding a disclaimer at the end such as, “That guy is a lowlife scumbag motherfucking asshole! Oh, I don’t mean that in a bad way…”

Well, here’s a new one on me.

Black, Tea Party leader [Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/17/rev-jesse-lee-peterson-agrees-with-gingrich_n_1211651.html?ref=mostpopular%20target=):

> [@](#):

> “One of the things that I would do is take all black people back to the South and put them on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working,” Peterson told The Huffington Post’s Black Voices on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m going to put them all on the plantation. They need a good hard education on what it is to work.”

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to know that Republican stupidity knows no color or race. Republican stupidity is a really fucking big tent.

Mike Huckabee, some people’s definition of a [reasonable conservative](http://mediamatters.org/blog/201201200016):

> [@](#):

> Speaking on The O’Reilly Factor, Huckabee said of Romney, “Let him make this challenge: ‘I’ll release my tax returns when Barack Obama releases his college transcripts and the copy of his admission records to show whether he **got any loans as a foreign student**. When he releases that, talk to me about my tax returns.’”

And, of course, right now it’s not Obama clamoring to see the tax returns, it’s Romney’s primary opponents.

I think he means whether he applied for college loans and listed himself as a foreign national rather than a US citizen. Of course, we’re clearly in la-la land here, so maybe he wants to know if Obama borrowed money to go to school on Mars.

Mike Huckabee’s comment reminds me of that line from the old Steve Martin “_What I Believe_” routine: “…I believes in seven of the Ten Commandments…”

I wonder if Huckabee attends “Bearers of False Witnessing Anonymous.” Probably not–who would believe him?

Bless his heart.
