At risk of a complete hijack, one wonders whether Senator Campbell believes the monkey in question was male or female. Lest anyone think stupidity of this sort is out of character, Sen. Campbell is the author of the [“Don’t Say Gay” bill](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/26/stacey-campfield-tennessee-senator-dont-say-gay-bill_n_1233697.html) we discussed a few months ago. ---

Has anyone mentioned Santorum’s belief that Obama wants every American to go to college so that they can be [liberally brainwashed?](http://www.nationalreview.com/phi-beta-cons/289376/santorum-higher-education-truth-sayer-candace-de-russy) And, as this article shows, the less educated are eating it up. ---

I check this thread every now and then, but continue to be amazed. It’s as though the Republicans are in a race to see who can be stupidest. Any of the latest gibberish from Santorum, the Newt, and Stacey Campfield would have been unthinkably stupid for a major politician to say in the not-so-distant past. One minor point about Campfield’s “My understanding is that it is virtually — not completely, but virtually — impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex.” This statement is more male-chauvinist than stupid. AIDS transmission from male to female is rather easy; it’s the converse that’s uncommon. ---
