# Stupid Republican idea of the day

It will pass. Two Republican Houses, 1 Republican governor, and support from the NRA.
It will get repealed in a couple of years after half a dozen or so cops get killed.

Faster if the first guy to kill a cop in his home after the law is passed is an urban black man.

You’re right of course. If a black guy is found innocent using the defense laid out in this bill, the legislature will call a special session if necessary and repeal it within a week.

Police and prosecutors’ organizations are apparently [grudgingly accepting of the latest version of the bill](http://heraldbulletin.com/breakingnews/x843247962/Indiana-legislators-tighten-right-to-resist-police) but still not happy about it:

As for the “Republicans love the police”, naaaaah, not really. Rabid “law ‘n’ order conservatives” love the police when the Evil Libruls get upset about police gratuitously arresting or shooting urban minorities or beating up peaceful protesters. But if the police are, say, responding to a domestic violence call by forcing their way into the home of a white suburbanite, then they’re jackbooted thugs and a homeowner needs to be able to draw on them.
I ain’t saying it’s logical, I’m just saying it’s how they think.

Actually, this is even more retarded than simply being a license to shoot the cops.
It also means the cops themselves are going to come in even \*more \*guns blazing that they already do on things like no-knock warrants ; because even if they have the wrong house or something like that, there might be a pissed off guy with a shotgun and the law on his side. Which in turn might lead even more civilians to tool up in order to protect themselves from the cowboy cops.
Nothing good can possibly come of this. Unless I’m missing the upside of this law, which is… ?

Police who barge into the wrong house on a no-knock warrant are still allowed to kill the householder if he or she should defend themselves, aren’t they?

Yes, but now the householder is allowed to kill the police in the act of so barging, too. I.e., householders are allowed to use deadly force on cops who might be intruding illegally if they “have reason to believe” they’re in deadly danger.
I for one heartily applaud this leveling of the playing field on the part of the Lethal Sports Advisory Board, and I feel confident that it will result in much brisker play and higher scores in future contests. Let’s face it, folks, our beloved traditional sport of indoor gunplay between firearms owners and law enforcement officials had been growing a little staid and one-sided over the past few decades. In many recent matches, neither side scored at all!
I think we can all agree that this was a somewhat embarrassing trend, and I hope you’ll join me in saluting the sportsmanship of Indiana police officers for sacrificing some of their positional advantage to restore the spirit and excitement of the game.

Or maybe, he’ll get some help in a week or two, but everyone will remember the hell they had fist gone through. he then reminds people how he had asked for help, and how slow the response was.
Meanwhile people are suffering and asking why won’t the feds help, and the answer (that they’ll not hear) is the Governor is not allowing them to.

Where a crime is both a federal and state matter, federal authorities typically defer to the states in prosecuting. In other words, they won’t unless the state can’t (or won’t).
