Yes, the Nazi’s were known to criticize religions for up to 37 minutes at a stretch! I’m not Penn Gillette’s biggest fan (stick to the very impressive magic and leave the opinions on second-hand cigarette smoke to the pros, guy), but I’m pretty sure he’d stop short of emulating Nazis.

Oopsie – looks like Bob McDonnell should have put more spirit gum on his “moderate” mask so that it would hold through the (Virginia gubernatorial) election:

> [@](#):
>
> [Bob McDonnell, Culture Warrior](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/31/AR2009083103045.html)
>
> On more one occasion, Robert F. McDonnell, the Republican candidate for governor in Virginia, has offered a soporific description of his graduate school dissertation as a “thesis on welfare policy.” This is false…
>
> The thesis is a wistful ode to a bygone 1950s America, when, Mr. McDonnell noted, 70 percent of American families were led by working fathers and homemaker mothers, and “every state in the union made sexual intercourse between unmarried persons a crime.” Sounding at times like an Old Testament prophet, Mr. McDonnell wrote that government must discriminate in favor of married couples and against “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators,” for “[t]he cost of sin should fall on the sinner not the taxpayer.”…

[Florida GOP chair: Obama trying to ‘indoctrinate’ children](http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/09/02/florida-gop-chair-obama-trying-to-indoctrinate-children/)

From the article: “The chairman of the Republican Party of Florida on Tuesday issued a statement to ‘condemn President Obama’s use of taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda.’”

Also from the article: “The White House has said the president would be urging students to ‘(take) responsibility for their success in school.’”

Why, that evel socialist-communist-nazi rat bastard!

Are we going to put up with our children taking responsibility for their success in school? Like all those socialists do? Fuck no, I say. We want our children to advance through their scholastic lives like all right thinking Americans do … throught their fathers’ connections.

Who’s with me here. Get the fucking pitchforks and torches.

I remember that one. The episode was brought to us by the numbers 19 and 84. The Count went mad after being forced to declare the sum of 2 and 2 to be 5.

OK, my question is: are they whipping up the wingnut base to acts of terrorism or even revolution? A primary purpose of terrorism is often to drive a government into increasingly draconic measures to keep the peace, driving more people into sympathy with the rebels. In the US now, we have a bunch of people who didn’t make a peep when the administration was tapping into all of their electronic communications and monitoring the books they checked out from the library, but is now in a frenzy because a Congresswoman wanted to change the hold music on her telephone. And these people overlap hugely with the segment of the civilian population who are armed.

I’m afraid. I really am.

I think in all probability we’re going to see at least one major act of domestic terrorism under Obama. It _is_ disturbing that there are so many mainstream right-wingers buying into the birther/death panel/insert other crazy conspiracy/Nazi stuff. Under Clinton is was just the extreme right wing that got its panties in a bunch (see Timothy McVeigh).

And I don’t think Clinton had actual members of congress accusing him of being a brain-washing socialist-communist-nazi who wanted to kill grandmothers.

It won’t \*really \*be a right wing group. No connection at all. In fact, it’s actually a left wing organization. See what the leftists are doing? SEE WHAT OBAMA HATH WROUGHT! [/Fox News]

[Georgia state senators prepare to save their constituents from affordable health care, Medicare and Medicaid](http://blogs.ajc.com/gold-dome-live/2009/09/03/gop-senators-plan-move-to-stop-health-care-reform-in-georgia/)

Their plan:

> [@](#):
>
> The proposed amendment would, Hill and Rogers said, would allow Georgia to invoke the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That amendment says that any power not explicitly granted the federal government in the Constitution is preserved for the states.
>
> Hill and Rogers argue that the health care reform bill being debated in Congress would violate the 10th Amendment and that their state amendment would protect Georgia from having to participate in any federal reform.

The stupid in the face of facts continues to astound me. Take this statement, for instance:

> [@](#):
>
> But when pressed about details of the Democrats’ plans, Rogers and Hill were less certain. According to Obama himself, the government option for health care would be that - an option. Consumers could keep their private insurance if they wish.
>
> But Rogers isn’t convinced. He said to ask “our friends in Canada” if they like government-run health care.

[Yes, why don’t we ask our friends in Canada if they like their insurance?](http://www.ipsosna.com/news/pressrelease.cfm?id=4467)
I especially like this part:

> [@](#):
>
> Asked if Medicare, which is government-run health care for seniors, would also then be unconstitutional, Hill said, “That’s a good question. I don’t know yet. We’ll fight that battle when it comes before us.”

Here’s an update from that page:

> [@](#):
>
> Update 9:28 p.m.: This statement just came in from Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta):
>
> “This constitutional amendment enables Georgians, who qualify, to continue to have the freedom to participate in government health care plans such as Medicaid, Medicare and Peachcare. We are not challenging the constitutionality of any existing government subsidized health care. This clarifies any comment which might imply otherwise.
>
> “I have also offered legislation which would provide a financial scholarship for low income children on Medicaid and Peachcare so they can have private health insurance to give them better access to doctors.”

Stupid fucking hypocrite.

Which would probably be a net SAVINGS for the program. [This](http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-11-05-state-rankings_N.htm) has Georgia as only the 40th most healthy state in the union.
