> Very important GOP plank: dismantle the Department of Education. They need to keep it irrational, or the GOP will just wash away…

I’m watching a guy named Peter Schiff on Book TV right now. He is arguing that the best thing we can do for our “young people” is to abolish government-subsidized student loans, and instead give that money to businesses, so they will hire more people. He says that way, only the kids who will really benefit from college will go, and the other kids won’t waste their youth, you know, learning stuff.

Didn’t Reagan once say something about how student financial aid was a waste because the students could drop their classes, get their money back, and just take off somewhere…? Somebody told him this was what was happening, and he believed it.

Like, if one person did it once, ever, then the whole program is a fraud and we have to end it.

Let me get this straight. He thinks handing more money to corporations that, collectively, are sitting on several trillion in cash and still aren’t hiring, is going to get them to hire? Really?

Wow.

One of his cabinet members said Reagan told him he had heard that ‘these kids were taking the loan money and putting them into CDs (certificate of deposit that is) and not even going to college!’.

Correct. Here’s his book on Amazon:

> **[The Real Crash: Schiff, Peter D.: 9781250004475: Amazon.com: Books](https://www.amazon.com/Real-Crash-Peter-D-Schiff/dp/1250004470)**

> The Real Crash \[Schiff, Peter D.\] on Amazon.com. \*FREE\* shipping on qualifying offers. The Real Crash

Skimming through the reviews, it’s endorsed by Mike Huckabee and Ben Stein, which is quite a brain trust, if you like experts on forcible rape and evolution. And one of the first five-star reviews notes that Schiff clearly understands money much better than that idiot Paul Krugman.

Yeah, yeah. “Real Men don’t eat quiche,” I’ve heard it a million times.

Although, to be fair, there _is_ a certain amount of truth to the statement.

Wouldn’t it be great if Republican candidates got a complex about answering questions about rape? “Rape is rape! And that’s all I’m going to say about it! Rape. Is. Rape!”

I think it would be great if we could stop having to have a national discourse on rape itself as though it were some kind of controversial topic. You can’t get pregnant from it, if it’s “legitimate” and you’re not just some whore trying to get a free abortion. It’s not really that bad, this guy went through something that was totally the same thing as having to go through a rape pregnancy. I mean, why aren’t we asking ourselves the really tough questions here; how is the father\* handling all of this?

\*aka the rapist.
