> Hello anyone! I was posting on another thread an hour ago and suddenly I received a call on my cell phone (number blocked) from one of the other posters. A threatening phone call. Can anyone tell me how that person was able to get my phone number? I don’t even have it in my profile!

How do you know it was from a SDMB poster?

Yes it pretty much had to be because I have not discussed my postings with anyone I know, and the caller used the exact words on the phone that she had used in her postings. I’m not out for revenge or anything, but I do want to know how she was able to get my number so I can lock things down a little tighter.

Can you get my number, based only on my username?

Do you know how to get my phone number, with only my username to go on?

No, but you might want to consider registering with an e-mail address that doesn’t contain your real name. Just a thought.

No. No one can get your number with only your username. Unless your username is your number. Now go to About This Message Board and ask your asinine questions there.

Apparently, doper lavenderviolet thinks that if she posts links to a couple of articles about how Obama isn’t the pinnacle of progressivism, people will magically vote for Mitt Romney.

If that’s not a stupid Republican idea, I don’t know what is.

She’s definitely not a lefty. I don’t know how far to the right she goes, but she’s not left.

OK, brace yourself. This one is going to be hard to believe.

Linda McMahon, Pubbie running for the Senate in Conn, is telling voters that she would work well with Obama in a bi-partisan relationship. Slogan: “President Obama and Linda McMahon will fight for us!” She is trying to ride Obama’s coattails into office.

If I’m lyin’, I"m dyin’.

There’s a lavenderviolet and a lavenderblue, and they seem to be complete opposites.

It’s just a trick so she can get Obama to join her in a tag-team matchup at Wrestlemania, then swerve on him halfway through the match and have a crooked referee do a fast-count, thereby resulting in CM Punk becoming president.

Scientific American, worth a read, IMO.

> [@](#):
>
> Yet despite its history and today’s unprecedented riches from science, the U.S. has begun to slip off of its science foundation. Indeed, in this election cycle, some 236 years after Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence, several major party contenders for political office took positions that can only be described as “antiscience”: against evolution, human-induced climate change, vaccines, stem cell research, and more. A former Republican governor even warned that his own political party was in danger of becoming “the antiscience party.”
>
> Such positions could typically be dismissed as nothing more than election-year posturing except that they reflect an anti-intellectual conformity that is gaining strength in the U.S. at precisely the moment that most of the important opportunities for economic growth, and serious threats to the well-being of the nation, require a better grasp of scientific issues. By turning public opinion away from the antiauthoritarian principles of the nation’s founders, the new science denialism is creating an existential crisis like few the country has faced before.
