If this hijack is quite over, the House GOP has decided to go home for the night instead of vote on the fiscal cliff deal.

I recommend to you Elaine Pagels book _Revelations: Visions, Prophecy, and Politics_ for more insight on how this collection of hallucinations became “Scripture”. Actually, if you have an interest in early Christian history, any of her books you could hardly go wrong.

_TL:DR_ John of Patmos was way wack. Totally.

> In Mississippi, GOP state Rep. Andy Gipson posted a message on his Facebook page which calls for putting gays and lesbians to death.
>
> On May 10, Gipson made the following post:
>
> “Been a lot of press on Obama’s opinion on “homosexual marriage.” The only opinion that counts is God’s: see Romans 1:26-28 and Leviticus 20:13. Anyway you slice it, it is sin. Not to mention horrific social policy.”

We’re talking about GOP voters’ and representatives’ relentless denial of the separation of church and state, which taken to its logical conclusion appears to suggest that Christians ought to promote the stoning to death of gays here in the US of A. And how stupid is that? Apparently everyone has their own opinion.

Anyway, I’d submit that since God isn’t registered to vote, His opinion does not in fact count where US politics is concerned. But many Christians behave as if their extreme emotional fervor surrounding their beliefs ought to create a loophole in the law such that they can legislate sin any time they feel like it. Seems to me we have laws in the first place partly to check people’s mad passions, but I am not a lawyer nor a religious gay-hater and so what seems obvious to me will be treated as the utmost nonsense by a certain set of religious-types. Try to point it out and you get the change-the-subject treatment. And I thought we were fighting ignorance.

Ok. Next!

New York and New Jersey Republicans are furious with Congressional Republicans for not taking up the disaster relief bill in this session. Sixty billion dollars is waiting for these ass clowns to take action on the Senate bill, and they’ve deferred it to the new Congress. Christie and Cuomo released a joint statement condemning the inaction. Nice going, morons.

Republicans are all about fiscal responsibility and slashing waste and fraud and drowning the government in a bathtub, until a hurricane hits. And then it’s all kumbaya, we’re all in this together.

[According to the American Family Association](http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/01/02/1386001/afa-christians-2060/), if we don’t stop gay marriage, then by 2060, Christian broadcasting will be illegal, the state will seize custody of Christian children at birth, and cities named after saints or biblical places will be forced to change their names.

This is, of course, the same group that encouraged people to [kidnap the children of same-sex couples.](http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/08/08/655951/bryan-fischer-children-of-same-sex-couples-must-be-saved-through-underground-railroad-kidnapping/)

I challenge any godless liberals, who don’t believe in the Bible, to explain how the Book of Daniel could possibly have prophesied about Carly Rae Jepsen 2500 years ago, unless it was written by God himself.

Along with aid for Hurricane Sandy victims, another piece of legislation was left to die when the House adjourned: the renewal of the [Violence Against Women Act](http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/01/02/16305284-house-gop-blocks-violence-against-women-act?lite). Apparently the problem with it is that the version that the Senate passed treats immigrants, native Americans, and lesbians like they’re straight white women or something. It’s almost comically heartless, except “in the meantime, there will be far fewer resources available for state and local governments to combat domestic violence.” Great job there, assholes.

When the GOP took over the New Hampshire state legislature, one of the silliest laws they passed (notwithstanding their attempt to [require all state laws to cite the Magna Carta](http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/01/04/397520/new-hampshire-gop-bill-mandates-that-laws-find-their-origin-in-1215-english-magna-carta/)) was a bill allowing lawmakers to carry guns in the legislative chamber.

Now that the adults (read: Democrats) are back in the majority, they’ve repealed that rule.

According to the Republicans who claim that not being able to bring deadly weapons into the seat of government is a violation of their Second Amendment rights, it’s silly to single out guns, because [a deranged state senator could cut your throat with a credit card.](http://www.concordmonitor.com/home/3585350-95/ban-gun-republican-committee)

Meanwhile, in DC, the GOP House in the new session of Congress has decided to get right to work on the most important issues of the day - Sandy relief, the debt ceiling, and the sequester.
