It’s not early January anymore, it’s the Ides Of Jan.
“Oh Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.”

I’ll have you know that this post nearly killed me. I’ve got the sick that’s going around along with deep, down mucus and the rales that come with it. Laughing in this state can be fatal. I only just made it back from the choking edge.

We’ve pitted people here for ditching their pets.

Some years ago we took in a petite female golden. The family said they were moving to a neighborhood in or near Atlanta that didn’t allow large dogs. (she was under 45 pounds at seven months old.) We soon realized that the real reason they’d dumped her was that she was not house broken. We crated her and spent significant amounts of time with her in our fenced in back yard to little avail as she would pee in the house once or twice a week.

We never even considered ridding ourselves of the dog.

My wife finally realized that, unlike normal dogs who barked or scratched at the door, she got all lovey-dovey with us when she needed to go out. So over the last eight years she’s been an honorable dog, even holding it when we spent twelve hours away at a wedding one day. But those first couple of months . . .

BTW, the monks at New Skete would have been able to solve the barking problem. The dog had its reasons for barking. Maybe Scott was evil, but more likely the dog either wanted him to stop vote suppression efforts or shut off some electronic device that was painful to doggie ears.

Some people, apparently Ricky Scott, have too little empathy and patience.

How exactly does one “adopt” or “rescue” a dog from a pet store? Isn’t the proper term “purchase”?

How in fuck did you people in Florida ever elect this guy??? 😕

Was the other candidate a guy who dressed like Hitler and sacrificed babies at press conferences? Or maybe the other candidate was Bigfoot? WTF???

Maybe we need an impeachment pool over the second term. The rules might be a bit complex, however.

For example, do we count the number of Congress-critters threatening impeachment , the number of supposed “crimes”, or the “crime-critter” number? Does there need to be an actual move toward impeachment?

How many months this year will a leading teahadist talk about impeachment or when will the actual first papers be filed? (Remember, this one was just a threat.)

Will there be an actual impeachment vote in the House? If it passes how many hours 'til the Senate shoots it down?

The other guy was [a girl](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Sink), and it was an election where Republicans won just about everything in the state. They could have nominated the _actual_ Voldemort for the office and taken it.

There’s a story not being told here. The old dog wasn’t _affectionate_ enough. The new dog is much more, er, loving. Yeah, that’s the ticket! From the linked story:

> [@](#):
>
> … "If you do a push-up, he wants to be underneath you as you do a push-up. He’s a sweet dog,‘’ Scott said.

Yeah, he wants to be underneath men doing push-ups. No wonder the gov loves the new dog, in every possible way!

Rick Scott is a piece of shit. I can understand the dog not working in his household–it happens. What I cannot understand is a person with Scott’s resources sending the dog to a shelter. Shelters are brutally overwhelmed–six out of ten dogs who go in aren’t coming out. With his broad circle of acquaintance, he would have had no problem finding a home for this dog. Instead, he kicked the problem to an agency. Fucking hypocrite.

I learn from Jon Stewart – one of the best newsmen on American TV – that Justice Clarence Thomas finally broke _seven years of silence on the SCOTUS bench_ with …

Well, he did not …

(Perhaps this doesn’t belong in this thread. The once-in-seven-years utterance appears incomplete, so may not be testable for stupidity.)

**Republicans Accuse Obama of Using Position as President to Lead Country**
(Sounds like The Onion, but it’s the New Yorker.)

> [@](#):

> WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Responding to reports that President Obama is considering signing as many as nineteen executive orders on gun control, Republicans in Congress unleashed a blistering attack on him today, accusing Mr. Obama of “cynically and systematically using his position as President to lead the country.”
>
> Spearheading the offensive was Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas), who charged the President with the “wanton exploitation of powers that are legally granted to him under the U.S. Constitution.”
>
> Calling him the “Law Professor-in-Chief,” Rep. Stockman accused Mr. Obama of “manipulating a little-known section of the Constitution,” Article II, which outlines the power of the President.

I’m pretty sure that’s still satire, even though it’s not from the Onion. Note the “Keywords humor” at the bottom of the page.

The NRA is now saying that it is “hypocritical” of Obama to want gun-free schools, while providing armed protection for his daughters.

If any response was even necessary, I would ask of any NRA member: how many people doing your job have been assassinated? How many death threats do you get in your mail every day?

I didn’t think so. STFU.
