He argued for the amendment on these grounds. “Give me liberty to deal out death” I guess. ---

Yah, I saw Thom Hartman’s video presentation on this and found it rather convincing (don’t have the “Thom Hartman, The Big Picture” podcast link right now). My gf has completely swallowed the notion- the 2nd Amendment is about a free _State_ (not Country) being granted the freedom to run a militia (i.e. slave patrol, if you follow the historical debate) without the federal government having the ability to disarm it and thereby undermine the ability of slave states to enforce slavery. Period. Not about fighting tyranny at all, but rather imposing it on the black population (which also explains why the slaves weren’t given guns- depriving them of such was part of the point). Nasty, but since you mentioned it first I guess I can’t start a thread about it… Anyway, I wonder what would be different if Bhudda had a gun? ---
