I don’t recall anything from mine that says “Don’t feed the poor, lest they breed.” Bauer is undoubtedly the reason that Mark Sanford is still employed by the State. Poor, poor South Carolina. How much humiliation can one state take? ---

I like the Victorian patronizing, myself. Why, poor people just breed mindlessly, they just don’t know any better, the dear hearts. It’s up to us wealthy thinkers to make them behave correctly. The quote also leads to unfortunate implications when you remember what the government really does with troublesome strays : they get actively hunted and culled. WWJD ? Kill off the poor ! ---
