Yeah, Popper is not proposing to ban all speech, only to be on the lookout when the intolerant “begin by denouncing all argument”. When the intolerant “may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive”. When the intolerant “teach [their followers] to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols”

\*\*Strassia \*\*also made a good point.

But let us go back to subject, Michelle Malkin just can not open her mouth without an attempt at appealing to the good chunk of racists that follow Fox News.

Michelle Malkin Calls President Obama A ‘Rodeo Clown’ Re Syria

> **[Michelle Malkin Calls President Obama A ‘Rodeo Clown’ Re Syria](https://www.newshounds.us/michelle_malkin_calls_president_obama_a_rodeo_clown_re_syria_09132013)**

> [@](#):
>
> “The problem is that when you talk about ‘vital American interests,’ there are a majority in this country who doubt that the rodeo clown in the White House and his clown car (Malkin was literally sputtering with contempt) of humanitarian interventionists, these left-wing ideologues like Samantha Power, Susan Rice, John Kerry and Valerie Jarrett have no idea what they’re doing.”
>
> Don’t tell me that Malkin’s use of the term “rodeo clown” wasn’t a deliberate and racial dig at those who were offended by the racially-tinged act of an Obama rodeo clown a few weeks ago.
>
> Yeah, that’s cheering for America, alright.
>
> But oh, when the tables were mildly turned, Ms. Flame Thrower just couldn’t take it!
>
> Williams said, “Michelle, …I find it really hard to listen to you, someone like you. You know, the far right that backed President Bush going into Iraq, said, ‘You know, America’s military might, our strength, our voice, should support democratic efforts in the Middle East.’ And now, because of your hatred of Obama, you’re turning your back on America’s role in the larger world.”
>
> Later, Williams said, “If you are the new Tea Party, you would have run away from the boats in Boston. And Patrick Henry would have run the other direction from the Red Coats.”
>
> For the record, I disagree with Williams here. I think there’s a world of difference between fighting for our own independence from colonialism and interposing ourselves in Syria’s civil war. But instead of arguing with respect, Malkin just ramped up her contemptuousness a notch or two.
>
> “Let me get the last word,” Malkin demanded. She said to Williams, “You wouldn’t know what American exceptionalism is if it smacked you in the face. …You know what, can I just send a shout out to the two million bikers who just showed up in DC. These are people who know and who have sacrificed and paid the price. …Listen to them, Juan. These are true patriots and they’ve been through American history. And for you to say that I wouldn’t know what a true American revolutionary was, how dare you? How dare you?”
>
> Apparently, Malkin was just so unglued by even the thought of someone challenging her patriotism that she lost sight of her facts. For one thing, it was thousands, not millions, of bikers who showed up in DC to honor the victims of 9/11 and the military members who served in its wake. For another, Williams never said she wouldn’t know what a true American revolutionary was. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she was projecting.

Three of the most stupid Americans of all time visit Egypt together on a diplomatic mission.

> Obviously, the substance of the video is crazy, but the fact that it exists at all is what’s truly amazing. Three sitting members of Congress decided on their own to do some foreign policy freelancing, contradicting the foreign policy of the United States, and making a propaganda video for those responsible for a military coup, offering support for a deadly crackdown on dissenters.

Imagine the poutrage from Faux News if three Democrats had done something similar during Cheney’s reign. There would have been calls for prosecution of traitors.

When Jesse Jackson traveled to Serbia to negotiate (as an independent – as a “journalist!”) for the release of hostages, some on the right did, in fact, condemn him and accused him of breaking the law. The complaints went nowhere, because he succeeded, and there was no political will to make a stink about someone who’d performed a heroic act.

It would be nice if the “ghostly trio” in Egypt did something productive, even heroic. No bets.

I’m flipping between MSNBC and Fox News. Some people say they’re exact mirror images of one another.

They have a point. On both networks, the hosts are deploring what is going to happen on Oct 1 because of the intransigence of the other side.

On MSNBC, they are upset because without Congressional action, the government will shut down, and a couple weeks later, the US will default on its debts. The consequences, both in the US and worldwide, may be catastrophic. Lost jobs, lack of services, maybe even a global depression.

On Fox, they are upset because without Congressional action, affordable health care provisions will take effect. People who couldn’t afford insurance before will be able to, people whom insurance companies wouldn’t cover before will be able to get insurance, people who get sick will no longer lose their insurance.

Sounds the same to me.

It shouldn’t. The financial burden of Obamacare is going to crater our economy. Having another shutdown - well, that can be fixed quickly. Obamacare can’t.

You are a walking, talking example of Poe’s Law. That anyone can seriously contend that expanding health care is worse than a government shutdown and/or default just blows my mind.

Obamacare goes online on January 1. How long after that will this cratering occur? What will be the objective signs that it has occurred? Or will it be ever receding into the future, like Obama taking our guns, or herding us into the FEMA camps?

Assuming RW preachers count as “Republican” – and I think we know how most of them vote – remember [Terry Jones](http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Terry_Jones), the pastor from Gainesville, Florida, who was going to publicly burn a Koran but backed down?

> Jones earlier told 10 News the lack of a permit would not stop him from sending his message about the religion of Islam to the world from Polk County. He wanted to set fire to exactly 2,998 copies of the Quran – one for every victim who died in the 9/11 attacks 12 years ago.
>
> But shortly before he planned to set the books on fire at the Mulberry park, Jones and associate pastor Marvin Wayne Sapp Jr. were stopped. Their truck was towing a large barbecue smoker, which reportedly had copies of the Quran inside, already doused in kerosene.
>
> “We couldn’t allow that container to continue down the road, with the flammable liquid in that container,” said Polk Co. Sheriff Grady Judd in a press conference. “It was flammable and it was dangerous.”
>
> Sheriff Judd said several law enforcement officers also saw Jones openly carrying a firearm on his hip.
>
> Polk deputies took Jones and Sapp into custody at the Mulberry Pharmacy on N. Church Avenue on felony charges. They are both charged with unlawful conveyance of fuel.

I’m not sure if not trying to burn them in his hometown was cowardly or ballsy. What small town is gonna want someone coming in from outside and making a scene like that, even if some of them don’t really like Muslims, which from the counter-rally doesn’t seem to be a significant percentage.

Looks like they’re throwing the book at them:

John Whitbeck, the Republican leader in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, opened a political rally for Ken Cuccinelli with an anti-semitic joke. And it wasn’t even that good of a joke.

Fut the wuck?

That joke had nothing to do with anything! What happened in his brain that made him think, “I’ll open with an offensive joke, that has no other purpose for existence other than making an offensive joke”?
