Now, I don’t know the elder Cruz from Adam here, but what strikes an odd note is that bit about a Castrol rebel captured by Batista and gets a _beating_? Do I need to adjust my impression of Batista away from an evil and brutal lizard-hearted creep? ---

[Texas’ Attorney General was almost prohibited from voting because of the voter ID law he advocated for.](http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/11/01/2875901/texas-voter-abbott-affidavit/) I say “almost” because an amendment to the bill allowed him to cast his vote, even though his ID called him “Gregory Wayne Abbot” and he was registered as “Greg Abbot”. Abbot opposed that amendment when it was put up. Who put up said amendment? Wendy Davis, of course (who was also flagged and almost prevented from voting for the same reason). ---

**BG** friend, did you miss the unsettling events of the past few days? There was a – ahh, minor accident and 85 or so Dopers were infected with some kind of gerbil zombie virus or something. The most obvious symptom was a transmogrification of user name. That, and a craving for[del] braaaiiiinnnnnnsssss[/del] – uhh, unusual taste treats. ---

I don’t know the extent to which the elder Cruz was brutalized by Batista’s bad boys, I bet all the reports are from Cruz Sr. and no telling how he slanted them, though his claims of being a Castro supporter and giving speeches in his favor after getting to the US could easily be double-checked. ---
