It is not incidental to Ukrainian history that for most of its history it has indeed been The Borderland – between Russia, Poland-Lithuania, and Austria-Hungary, all of which held parts of its territory at different times, and all of which influenced its culture, but to different measures in different regions, e.g., Western Ukraine is mostly Catholic and Eastern Ukraine is mostly Orthodox. ---

I don’t know if this really counts as a stupid idea, but Rand Paul is trying to get the Kentucky legislature to “clarify” the state law which forbids candidates from running for two offices at the same time, so that he can run for President and run for his Senate seat again, at the same time. In this context, clarify apparently means repeal. ---

Well, let’s be fair : if Clinton gets to quibble over the meaning of “is”, then Paul gets to quibble over “at the same time”. Time, what is time, man ? And riddle me this : since Washington D.C. sits in the EST time zone while western Kentucky is in CST, can he really be running for both a local race and a national one at the \*same \*time ? ---
