The current shortfall, the one that really matters, is $293,000,000. That has to be made up by June. In part they’re going to do that by delaying repayment of $108,000,000 of debt due in May. The cost of that move will be $545,000. Not sure what the plan is for the remaining $195,000,000 shortfall. Back in 2011 the shortfall going into June of that year was only $36,000,000 but it was used as an excuse to gut public employee unions in the state by passing Act 10. ---

I remember being surprised, pausing to try and remember when I had last heard “union thugs” spoken with a straight face. Reminded me of old newspaper editorial cartoons from my youth, where Big Labor was a chubby, balding lout of uncertain but swarthy ethnicity. Unshaven but not bearded. With the stub of a gross cigar sticking out his mouth. Christ, what next, Boss Tweed? The Wobblies, maybe, or anarchists with bombs that look like bowling balls with fuses stuck in them? ---
