I don’t suppose you know the name of that tv movie?

[Impact](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impact_(miniseries)) IIRC. If so then the Moon didn’t explode but then everyone on the Earth simultaneously saw the collision on the Moon.

Or something.

The IMDB entry mentions that bit, and adds this:
One note of interest: the main character is Alex Kittner. Obviously an homage to one of the greatest disaster/suspense flicks ever - Jaws. Alex Kittner is the boy who is eaten at the beach, the one whose mother slaps Chief Brody in the face for keeping the beaches open. Thank god Alex was resurrected to save the Earth from a killer great white…moon!!!"

2018’s “ **The Predator** ” might have the stupidest line of film dialog in human history.

> You know a lot of experts say being on the autistic spectrum isn’t actually a disorder. It’s actually the next step in human evolutionary chain.

Not to mention a major plot point in the movie is that “Autism” “genes” are actually highly desirable for a warrior race, since this is Hollywood Autism which makes you’re unsocial but can literally decipher and translate literal alien languages in the span of a few hours.

Watched, [The Words](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1840417/), yesterday.

I really can’s say enough bad things about it. But let me start with the acting and _the words_. Was this supposed to be some sort of parody? I don’t understand why they would waste so much money on a great cast and let them do such shit work using such shit lines. What a train wreck.

And the older Dennis Quade gets, the more he looks like Harrison Ford.

I disagree with this. The way its put together is a bit weird (half a QT crime movie, half a Robert Rodriguez schlock horror movie). But I would not describe any Robert Rodriguez movies as dumb. The are actually one of the few examples of a movie “not taking itself seriously” that actually works IMO.

Usually saying “oh this movie doesn’t take itself too seriously its just a bit of fun” usually means its some unwatchable Hollywood action movie that is a dull collection of set piece stunts strung together with bad dialogue. Robert Rodriguez actually makes moves that “don’t take themselves seriously” and are actually fun to watch, which is a pretty clever trick to pull off IMO.

This brought to mind the afternoon I wasted 15 years ago watching “Bone Eater” ([Bone Eater - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_Eater)). Other than being supremely stupid, it was notable for casting “Native American” actors who were _much_ whiter than anyone else in the movie.

> > A woman asked about the categories of Tornados, one of the tornado chasers talks about F2s and F3s and how an F4 will physically move your house. Then the woman asks if there’s an F5 tornado exists and the room goes dead silent. Everyone drops the utensils they were using to eat dinner and everyone looks at her in shock. Because apparently one of their families had died in an F5 Tornado when they were a kid and act like it was a major faux pas.
> >
> > BUT ASKING IF AN F5 TORNADO EXISTS IS A COMPLETELY NATURAL LINE OF CONVERSATION
>
> Ah, but it was Jami Gertz’s character who asked, and she was The Dummy. Movies that involve science, or pseudo-science, usually have The Dummy: the character who knows nothing about what’s happening, and asks questions so the audience can be brought up to speed. In days gone by, it was often a child, or at least a teenager: a niece or nephew of one of the main characters, tagging along because Reasons.
>
> There are no children in Twister; there’s this woman, Paxton’s new lady friend he’s been seeing while he’s one signature away from being divorced from Hunt. She’s a psychologist, which means she “only” has a PhD. If she was a psychiatrist, she’d have an MD, making her closer to a Real Scientist. But she’s an airy-fairy _therapist_, so she gets to be The Dummy.
>
> (The one thing I’m glad about is that her pristine white suit did **not** get splattered with mud. I was cringing in dread of that, but her character was excused from the film before that could happen.)
>
> Okay, another stupid movie, that I’ve probably mentioned here before: San Andreas. There’s a 8- or 9-point earthquake in L.A., and the Rock, some kind of Special Ops Disaster Responder, ignores thousands of people in agony or peril so he can get across town and save his teenage daughter. Except, half the film follows her and two other people she hooked up with…and we see over and over that she is smart, capable and brave, and therefore doesn’t **need** Big Daddy to save her! Except for the first scene after the quake, where she’s trapped in a car and can’t get out on her own, everything after that is her leading the two boys to safety, **not** the other way around. So Dad could have done his job and helped everybody else, but oh no, they can all get crushed or fall into the tar pits or burn up, because they’re not his daughter.

I’m laid up in bed watching television and I turned on this piece of shit. I was thinking the same thing. They have this 15 minute scene establishing that he is the greatest rescuer/pilot/superhero in the world. They give him a team that seems like will be with him rescuing people for the rest of the movie. But when the earthquake happens he’s alone (!) in the helicopter, He flies over the entire city of Los Angeles and goes in to rescue only his ex-wife. Then he doesn’t stick around to rescue people in the city he is paid to rescue, He flies with his ex-wife to San Francisco to rescue his daughter. In the entire movie he doesn’t help anyone other than his family. Even at the end when they are in the rescue camp They can see thousands of rescuers moving into the area by air land and sea but instead of going to work he is still hang out with his family. There are still probably hundreds of thousands of people that need to be rescued but all he does is give a cheesy line about rebuilding and then turns his back literally on the city.

Back in the days when there were video stores where one would rent VHS tapes and later DVDs, I accidently rented this abomination of a film. I picked it up to read the description and then put one of the movies I intended to rent back in the rack instead of this POS. Ended up watching it at home but it was awful.

I assume that massive drug abuse played a large role in how bad this film was and how it ever got made.
