Ah, yes. The venerable **VW Snotcheese.** I heard the name of the Touraeg announced before I saw it in print, so I had no idea how it was to be spelled. I heard “Toe-Rag.” I immediately thought–“toe-cheese” and “snot-rag.” Yes, I’m disgusting. Anyway, I immediately started calling it the Snotcheese. I like that better. But the most horrible recent car name has to be the Nissan **Armada**. As soon as I heard a commercial, I turned to my husband and said, “but didn’t the Armada…_lose_? 😕” He said, “yeah, they did. I think they did. Didn’t they?” Neither of us could believe that they named a car after one of the most notorious and crushing defeats in history. We had to look it up because we figured that _we_ must be mistaken! From Encarta: _Armada, Spanish: fleet assembled and dispatched by King Philip II of Spain in an unsuccessful attempt to invade England in 1588. The defeat of the armada was one of the great achievements of Queen Elizabeth I of England and helped bring about the subsequent decline of the Spanish Empire._ And to make it even more awful: Many SUV owners say that one of the reasons that they wanted a larger heavier vehicle is that the bigger car is likely to “win” in a collision. But the bigger, stronger, Spanish Armada was soundly defeated. Therefore, the following scenario is inevitable: An Armada will collide with a Honda Civic. The Civic will sustain a dented fender. The Armada will be totalled. What the heck were they thinking? ---

How about those Mercedes-Benz “KOMPRESSOR” models-are they supposed to be vacuum cleaners or something? Are they planning a whole new line of “Kompressors”? Inquiring minds want to know! ---

Cars bearing the “Kompressor” label are supercharged. What’s so silly about “Touareg”, anyway ? Naming an off-raod vehicle after a desert people known for their nomadic lifestyle seems perfectly logical to me. ---

I always thought the **GM Impact** was a particularly bad name for a car. Naming econo-boxes after serious muscle cars of 60’s ( **LeMans** ) is also a bad use of a good name. At least the **GTO** (which officially stands for nothing in particular) is being put on a car with some oomph. ---
