Last night - Olympic Sports Announcers calling the 200m Men’s breast stroke competition. The Japanese athelete (Kitajima) holds the current world record and was trying to beat his own record. Not once, not twice, but THREE times they called him “the best breast stroker in the world.” :eek: Now, while I’m quite sure that my fat ass will not qualify as an olympic-caliber athelete, but I would like to know what team I need to join to participate in the practices. 😃 ---

BIG PUSH ON MY BUTTON: Olympics…Natsia Liukin just wins the US Gold in women’s gymastics… The announcer says "she’s from the capital, PLANO, TX. ::Ahem:: AUSTIN is the (current) capital of Texas. …Just an FYI for y’all Northerners. If you must display your ignorance, please do not do it on national ::cough cough:: INTERNATIONAL :: cough cough Television, okay. P.S. If you must, please do not include “Texas” in your statement of idiocy, thank you very much. We take great pride in the eradication of the estoopids from our homeland. ---

Back in the 1970’s, I remember a Boston (male) newscaster stating “Although the woman was raped, she was not physically harmed.” 😕 Got a lot of response on that one. ---

[/QUOTE] In the 1950s, reporters for our local newspaper used the euphemism “assaulted” when they meant “raped.” This sometimes resulted in odd statements such as “Although the murder victim was severely beaten, she was not assaulted.” ---
