Easter during a blizzard? Not in Southern California, but I remember an Easter in the 70s when it poured rain all day; and when we were kids there was a hailstorm on Easter!

Christian Easter and Passover have to sync up up, otherwise the story makes no sense: Jesus was allowed to be taken down from the cross for burial because of the extreme holiness the Jews ascribed to that particular Sabbath. The normal practice for crucifixion was to leave the body on the cross and let the carrion birds peck away at the scraps, which made the punishment so very undesirable (and presumably, to be crucified at a cross-orchard like Golgotha would be particularly icky because one would be placed among the festering corpses already hanging there). For Jesus to have died on the cross and later come down from the dead would have been a really strange pass.

You realize it still makes no sense to me, and matters not a bit. And if Jesus died on the first day of Passover, he wouldn’t have been buried on that day, regardless of whether the next day was Shabbes. You do not hold funerals on Passover or Shabbes.

There’s a lot that happens in the gospels-- like the idea of Jesus being dead for three days-- that is Jewish custom and superstition, not Jewish law or prophecy, and a lot of things that were misunderstood, and misinterpreted by the people who wrote down Aramaic oral texts into Greek, but the misunderstandings serve to reveal the underlying Aramaic stories.

I agree with your friend. Mr. Ventura sued because his name was sullied by the statements in the book. He wanted to get some kind of validation that the book was wrong and he hadn’t said more US servicemen should be killed. Since it isn’t possible to get the author to retract the statement, not that the author seemed willing to do so when he was alive, Mr. Ventura’s only recourse was to sue. Which he did and he won. Great. He has done almost everything he can to clear his name. The amount of money awarded in the judgement didn’t change the determination of the jury that Mr. Ventura hadn’t said what was alleged. Returning the money would have been the classy thing (perhaps dumb to many people, but in my opinion classy) to do. And it would have enhanced Mr. Ventura’s reputation with other people. Which is what Jesse said he wants.
Of course now Mr. Ventura is 1.8 million $ richer and perhaps that is worth more than giving up the money to enhance his reputation.

I think that a man who just got 1.8 mil, has just had his reputation enhanced.
