Recently, a fellow SDoper informed me that he was going to start a new thread in GD. Normally, I do no follow GDMB closely, but since I was interested in his topic, I checked GD twice/day. Fortunately, he included the name of the topic in the titleline, so I recognized it right away. But some people may give a thread a general or non-apparent name, so it would be harder to find (I know about Search).
So, I wonder: it appears that automatic notification is no problem for SDMB. Could be a similar “Subscripton service” started? Like, I go to a Subscription page, and fill boxes: “Name”/“Keyword”, “Next 10 days”/"Permanemt, “Your email address”, Submit, and a notification arrives if/when the author or the topic starts?
