I found that…surprising when it happened.
My brother and his wife attended it years ago. He became increasingly blunt, confrontational, and generally unpleasant. Not sure if we can ascribe the change to Marriage Encounter or if it just landed around the same time by coincidence. He had converted to Catholicism—not blaming Catholics, but he started acting better than everybody else as well, maybe showing his new tribe he was different from his old life or something.
There are different groups with similar names. Hopefully not paywalled…

A second group, National Marriage Encounter, was organized in 1970 after its leaders broke away from Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
