Please don’t follow this advice. .INFO and .BIZ are filled with spammers.
I’d consider .US (or the appropriate country extension) or .ORG if it’s not a moneymaking venture. People seem to recall unique .orgs better than .nets.
Branching out a bit, http://slashdot.org/ is one of the biggest tech news sites and has been for over a decade. It also debunks the notion that for-profit companies can’t own .org domains.
I’m surprised that needs debunking. I went to work for Network Solutions in 1998 and by then they had given up on requiring .org applicants to certify their non-profit status, and it was fair game for all.
Yes but they’re using the .net as originally intended, as a network provider. It’s pretty much just used for customers’ email addresses and web pages. If you want to order service you go to Cox.com. The OP is asking about using .net as a TLD for a primary business web site.
In other immature humor news, RIM, the maker of the Blackberry, has a website for potential new hires to research jobs at RIM. http://rim.jobs/ is an actual domain name that does not point to a porn site.
So you might get a .jobs domain name, but as it could never be as amusing as that one why bother?
