So I got my very first breast pump on the weekend and commenced the somewhat painful process of lactation.
At first I found it wildly amusing to sit on the couch next to Leechboy and suck my own boobies (with the pump). After a little while the ouchies started but so did the milk.
Leechboy has offered to kiss my boobies better but I’d rather keep sucking them.
On Wednesday I get to try breastfeeding Bubbaleechie - _woo hoo_ – so I’m going to keep sucking them boobies – gotta make sure the milk keeps coming.

Ow. I tried a manual breast pump and also a double-barrel electric milking machine. Both hurt. And they suck your nipples disturbingly far into the device =:O

I just loved the constant drone of my machine ☹ . I got a manual pump after the pain commenced and it was reduced somewhat (not all, mind you) along with hardly any noise. What we do for our kids, eh? Women rule…

I rent a Lactina and it is very comfortable. I have a whisper wear that is more gentle but doesn’t get enough volume. The Avent Isis is a great manual pump, but it has a very strong suck and can be painful. It is supposedly very good at stimulating milk production.
I found that taking ibuprophen when my breast were very sore not only helped the pain, it helped the milk flow.

Not to make anyone feel self-conscious… this is nothing to do with a specific individual and everything to do with the devices themselves. When my wife was using a breast pump, it reminded me very strongly of the milking machines used on my uncle’s farm for cow’s udders. Now I know why their nipples seemed so long!

I horrified my Grandma by telling her I felt like a milk cow whilst using the machine. Dunno though, maybe I should be feeling like the milk maid too.
A question to ponder whilst sucking my boobies, am I the milk cow or the milk maid? 😕

Well I am happy about your decision to breastfeed. It is better for the baby for many reasons. I am also sorry about your problem with the pump. Maybe you could try another model.
There is nothing sexual about breastfeeding guys! So back off of her!

Our local council loans electric breast pumps for a small refundable deposit, so the decision about which brand of manual pump to choose was decided for me as I had to get the one that went with the loaner machine. {nb - using _Medala_ brand)
It is getting less painful as I get used to it which is good **and** I’ve got milk! Woo Hoo. Was somewhat of a concern after 4 months of not breastfeeding the milk might not come. But it is there. 🙂
