I graduated in '06 so I’d like to think I’m not that out of date and I prefer my alarm clock. I think having a dedicated alarm clock is nice because you may leave your phone at a party but you can turn your alarm clock on before you leave and not even have to worry about it until its time to wake up.

I know several people my age who still use alarm clocks but since my batteries died on my alarm clock I’ve been using my cell phone so it works for that as long as i have a good charge in it and remember to bring my charge when I travel.

I want to thank everyone for the good suggestions. (Cell phones have alarm clocks built in? Who knew?!) **Shirley Ujest** - a co-worker of mine who used to be a musician calls ramen noodles “Purina Musician Chow”. 😃

I was tempted to get The Graduate a multi-tool, but I don’t know if anything with a knife blade would be allowed in the dorms. For all I know they enforce TSA rules about nail clippers and bottles over 3 ounces … :dubious:

Anyway, we’re going to give the graduate some fine engraved portraits of President Jackson. The rising freshman will have to arrange framing himself 😉

Don’t do what my rich cousins did. They gave their spoiled-brat daughter a 112-day round-the-world cruise. It cost them over 50 grand. Instead of enjoying all the sights, the girl just got drunk with her friends every night, and spent the next day sleeping it off. Other than that she was totally bored. Now she’s back home with no intention of going to college or working. And oh yeah, the first thing she did when she got home was to get an abortion.

Graduates will almost always appreciate this gift, unless their last name is Hilton. I’m pretty sure that a multi tool would be permitted in a dorm, but I’d hate to be wrong and find that the tool was confiscated.

The best present I’ve ever received in my life was a good quality Eagle Creek travel backpack.

I got it for a post-graduation trip to Europe. Little did I know that I’d still be using it ten years later, after having dragged it all over the world (and making it shuttle laundry and groceries around when I was stuck at home.) The buckle finally broke last year, and they sent me a new one with no questions asked. That thing really set me up for a life of adventure.

The three best gifts I got when I graduated high school in 2007 were:

- Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go
- A Laptop (so accessories were appreciated too)
- Classy bookends with 15th century-looking globes on them, given by my second cousin who is an ER doctor.

Hope those help 🙂

There is no such thing as a disgustingly large (anything consumable) from the perspective of a college-aged male. Big is Good. Big food. Big Beer. Big Bong (if so inclined). Big Tits. All good.

Believe it or not I used to be a college-aged male and I really did and do think those burritos are obnoxiously large. But your rule pretty widely holds true.
