[As you may have read](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=477631) , we are engaged BUT ringless! So, to make this a little easier, how about some ideas from all our Doper friends? First off, let’s start with what I like: Unique/unusual jewelry. Preferrably sterling silver, white gold, or platinum (gold does not look good with my skin tone) I like Celtic jewelry, but not fond of the Claddagh. I love Poesy rings so am leaning towards [this one](http://www.sapphirelane.com/Gaelic_Love_Now_and_forever.htm) . I am also leaning towards something [Edwardian style](http://www.faycullen.com/_pics/800/e1219r4d/2.jpg) He, however, prefers gold - so I was thinking of a gold band with silver trim? ideas people! send me ideas! ---

I can give you the advice I gave my boyfriend/not-so-covert-fiance… a narrow yellow gold ring with a diamond in it. There. Wasn’t that easy? No, we’re not having a wedding, either. Wasn’t _that_ easy? ---

I know some people whose wedding rings were an unadorned gold/silver/copper (or some similar combination of metals) braid. Very nice and not tacky at all. ---

Not that I’m frequently shopping for engagament rings mind you. Just for birthdays, Christmas, etc. I perambulate until I see the “right” whatever. Seldom has this technique failed me. ---

poesy rings are nifty if they can spell out something that is special to y’all. a pet name or beloved’s name. how 'bout a mix of birthstones? or the birthstone of the planned wedding? or chinese year signs if y’all are one of the niftier ones, ie dragon or rat? a chicken and pig may not look as cool in a ring. small stones could be the eyes. ---

I described my style and was asking others for ideas that would fit in with that - NOT advice on the easiest way to get a ring and have (or not have) a wedding, thank you. I heard someone once tell the story (it might have been here on the Dope, not sure) that he and his wife had tattoos around the base of their left ring fingers and plain bands on top of them. That way, even when they took their rings off, they still had rings on. I thought it was a lovely sentiment. ---

We got our wedding rings from [www.titaniumconcepts.com](http://www.titaniumconcepts.com) - they have gold inlay rings (ours are titanium with silver inlay). Designwise, they are very plain though. You might also consider Palladium, a Platinum Group Metal that most people cannot distinguish from platinum, at a cost comparable to white gold. My e-ring was custom made for me at [moissaniteco.com](http://moissaniteco.com) … they were very reasonably priced, excellent service, and have lots of designs if you don’t want to do custom (I prefer not to wear diamonds). ---

I like some of the Gwynfynydd posted earlier. Something in rose, yellow, and white gold but if I had to pick just one, it would be rose gold. ---

My vote is for the Edwardian style. That shit’s comin’ back strong these days. It’s a bitch to keep clean, but a feeling of comfort washes over me when I see that stuff. I think because my mom had a necklace in that style that I will probably be able to wear when my dad is gone. If you can afford it, skip the silver and go with platinum. Also, something I learned when Mr. K gave me my anniversary ring…the better pieces always have a platinum mount. It highlights the stone better. My wedding set was purchased in Paupersville and does not have the platinum. The difference is striking. ---

I kinda like one of the dragon designs (for him) one of the sites has. Ugh! So many beautiful rings! I did like the flower design at moissaniteco I do like the idea of the birthstones. ---

(It might be the same company as the one **silenus** linked to … the url seems similar but not quite) They are great to work with and receptive to custom orders and can help you figure out what you want (“Um, I want something that looks like that but different … but I don’t know what exactly…”) PS Please do not let the cheesy web site influence your opinion too much!
