# Suggestion for a new tablet?

Well, if you’re old tablet really is 7 or 8 years old, that doesn’t surprise me, and it was a good decision to get a new one.

Certainly, at 7-8 it’s time to replace if nothing else because of software/security issues when the OS goes out of support (which is all but certain for android, and even getting _likely_ for iOS).
Having been in tech support previously, I do the full restart on the phone at least every two weeks. Yeah, so it takes one or two minutes to fully restart (per device) but I have fewer issues even though (due to the same background) I’m religious about closing apps and browser tabs when I’m done with them.

My Samsung Android mobile automatically does a full restart weekly at a time of my choosing. As did my previous Samsung Android mobile.
Seems to work well to prevent problems.
We shan’t discuss the 400 open tabs in my GF’s iPhone’a Safari. Nor the performance problems appurtenant thereunto.
She used them as her personal version of favorites. Except there was no find or search feature or organization so there were dozens of duplicates. No. We shan’t discuss this at all.

Yes, well, I finally got permission to check my wife’s phone once every couple of weeks and close unused apps, tabs, and other background apps a few years back. I’ve also working on getting her to shut down her computer fully periodically. But she’s totally worth it!
@LSLGuy - makes a good point about scheduling it. I haven’t had a Samsung in… 6-8 years, and my Pixel doesn’t do it natively, though there are apps for that (some qualms from ME about the permissions needed to do so, I’ll keep in on manual). Last I checked, it was mostly Samsung and some LG phones that did it through their own custom settings/software (I did mention some custom features that are good amidst all the bloat!).
I tried to find a current short video that summed it up, but, well, that stuff changes all the time, and many assume all android phones do things the same way, at the same time. Thankfully, these days you can use the search bar in settings and type, swype, or voice-to-text using terms like auto-restart or device management and you’ll generally be able to find and then set it up quickly, or just ask @LSLGuy and other Samsung owners for the exact steps.

Lol, only 80 tabs open on my phone. And they are organized into groups, so i often find things quickly that way. And also, I’m sure there are duplicates. Sometimes, when I’m bored, i close a dozen tabs.

I “restart” my Android phone when I remember, is this the same?
and my new tablet is interesting. I can see why people get a thumb drive for more storage, I uninstalled all kinds of stuff and it’s memory is still about 1/3 FULL when I have zero books, documents, photos, etc on it so far.
and I need stand for it, so I don’t have to hold it! I hope that’s easy enough to pick out.

Yeah, that’ll be the same or the correct terminology, respectively. I only have German language Android devices and didn’t know how “Neu starten” is called in the English versions.
As for a memory use of 1/3 without having much data on the device: that’s normal, the OS and the system and other preinstalled apps will normally take that much space.

I just looked it up again, and actually it is a compound word, “Neustart” (new start). But I like “telefonneustartumschnellerzumachungsversuch” better. 😂

For those who are trying to parse this, Google translate gives this as:

Though I have no idea if Google parsed it correctly or did a nuanced translation. I look forward to one of German speakers to confirm or clarify. I also think a “Verdammt”\* should be included sotto voce in there as well.

I have to admit that Google Translate, which I’m still biased against because it used to be so awful in its early years, got that perfectly, and it’s a made up word to boot. And if you want a compound swear word and swear in style, use this:
Himmiherrschaftzaggramentzefixalleluja! (granted, I’ve stolen it, it’s Bavarian and I’m from Westphalia)
