By the way, I suspect that most experienced officers in first-world armies would disagree with this statement. From my time in the army, the attitude was distinctly against that sort of blood-and-guts, gung-ho attitude.

Reread Patton’s quote. You don’t want soldiers looking for a glorious death–you want soldiers who will kill the enemy and go on killing them, as part of a well-trained, well-coordinated force, effective force. There’s a big difference.
