I’m sort of against euphemism. I understand why people prefer I not refer to the act as “self-murder”, but “killed themself” does accurately describe what happened.
There people for whom the act of suicide is, actually a sin and I think they should be able to talk about it in those terms if that’s how they understand it and the sin part is causing them distress. And a disease process that results in death is “pathological”. You are free to disagree, but some of this sounds like sugar-coating something ugly. Yes, sometimes that’s necessary, but I still find it extremely distasteful at best.
I finally saw Michelle Carter 2 weeks ago. She was seated not six feet away from me at a local breakfast place. I would have asked to be moved but I had my future 5 year old stepson with me and I didn’t want to make a scene. It was incredibly distracting. I thought she was in jail but apparently not that morning.
Bumping this to let those interested in the case know that tonight and tomorrow night HBO is running a two-part documentary on the case. It’s called, “I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter”.
I hope Michelle Carter travels backward in time and reverses her horrible decision to prod another human being into killing himself for the lulz. Fingers crossed!
That isn’t what she did, though. She systemically harassed and bullied him into finally doing it. And apparently, when he wanted to stop part-way through, she told him to stay in the car.
That is NOT just eventually breaking and saying, “Fine, whatever, kill yourself then.” She legitimately WANTED him to die for an extended period of time. She could have cut off contact with him at any point. Instead, she chose to encourage him to kill himself.
