We had a sunfish as well. One year my sister got a BIG inner tube – the cross section of the tube was at least a foot in diameter and the thing was maybe 4 foot tall. We used to curl up inside and roll down a small hill. Anyhow, that thing was so much fun on the beach, and so was playing with Tonka trucks. I know my siblings had fun in the Wolf River rapids – I may have been too small.
I do remember a hike where I was fine hiking about half way but had to be carried the rest of teh way (I was probably 6 years old).\
Forgot to mention in my previous post – we didn’t have a cabin, but a bunch of my friends had one “up north”. This was fairly common even for middle class folks. I never went to one until high school.
For a while my brother lived on the Chain O’ Lakes near Waupaca, WI. I did a LOT of snorkeling on Taylor Lake – my mom was happy as it was quite shallow for a lot of it. One year I took Greyhound there – fell asleep on the way back but thankfully the bus driver woke me.

My Dad was a golfer, so our summers would often involve a trip to his next tournament. New Zealand summers are, of course, December January, and also not all that warm, but if you go to the right places*, which we did for those golf games, they’d be glorious.
*Check out Alexandra, Queenstown, or Hanmer Springs, for example.
