Any words of wisdom regarding this?

I’m finally getting around to buying a battery backup sump pump.  
Any advice on what brands to use or to avoid?

The primary sump pump currently in the house is 13 years old. Is there a life expectancy on these things? Should they be replaced every so often as a matter of course?

And any horror stories you have would be fun to read.
