The other students in the class are probably asking classmates, friends, and family. Nobody’s going to get anywhere near a true random sample. I’m sure the prof knows that.

My 3d response is a semi-serious observation as to the questionable ambiguity in your question, as Hogwash observed. Personally, I don’t do math for recreation, but I’m glad it exists when I need to tot up the old checkbook, or when rocket scientists need to do whatever they do.

Well, the purpose of this assignment is mostly just to assemble and organize data, and to display my recently-acquired knowlege of basic statistical techniques. (In other words, I get to draw pretty little graphs.)
And while there is a section where I discuss potential sources of bias, I’m not exactly worried about sampling methodology. Seriously, how illuminating is a survey of 30 or so people meant to be when it asks one question?
But thank you for your responses so far. Almost done!
If that’s all you need to do, why not just generate random numbers?

I think I have enough responses, folks! Thanks for all your help!
Because I think that making up data is not in the spirit of this assignment. Although it’s hard to get a feel for what the professor wants, given that this is an online class.
