Some people really put too much thought into this old, tired human/alien trope.

So - Cadmus obviously knows that Kara is Supergirl. Why haven’t they disclosed her “secret” identity?
That raises an interesting question. Do heroes such as Batman or Superman have a “contingency plan” in case their cover identity is blown? A back-up personna, say.
Erring on the safe side of spoilers,
in WATCHMEN, Nite Owl’s secret identity gets blown – and he mentions having “set up emergency identities years ago.” And the next time we see him in civvies, the dark-haired and clean-shaven Dan Dreiberg (a) has removed his glasses, and (b) is nowhere in sight; there’s just some blond dude with a mustache, as per the ID that gives his name as ‘Sam Hollis’.
For bonus points, this was right around the time when that same author also penned WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE MAN OF TOMORROW – where Superman’s identity as Clark Kent gets revealed, but nobody looks twice at Jordan Ellliott: the guy who has dyed hair that matches his impressive mustache, and who doesn’t wear glasses.
Yes. I half expected J’onn to say when he was recovering, “The worst…part…was…that…Mon El was…right…”
And if Mon El is the last survivor of Daxam, which apparently he is, that makes him heir to all the property that Daxam has off-planet (assuming there’s any) and also, possibly, the one who’s supposed to assume any responsibilities for treaties/conspiracies, etc., that his planet was involved in. Then it wouldn’t matter if he was “only” a bodyguard.
BTW, notice how he said his father was a “bad man” that he’d run from? I’m guessing that his father’s still alive somehow, and will show up.
I think it’s odd/interesting that in Arrow, they strongly implied that “sensible” gun control included a registry* but in Supergirl, the alien registry just showed the nightmare scenario of all the ‘pro gun’ types regarding the registry. I’m sure they were going for immigration, but given the Arrow episode, that’s not where my mind went.
Moving away from the politics, the green, vaguely sharklike alien who Alex and Maggie rescued: why the hell didn’t they just tint him red and give him faceted yellow eyes. He looked exactly like whatever race Kanjar-Ro was from. (I did like the Takron-Galtos reference)
piness or break them up.
I really like Lena as a good guy. She’s an interesting character and is filling a niche that is sorely missing without whatsnername—Kat Grant.
Since when has Mon-El forgotten how to speak English? Did I miss him being hit with a brain-damage ray? He’s been around for a whole season…so why did this stupid character trait suddenly appear this episode.
Snapper’s still a really obnoxious dick. I don’t like the actor, I don’t like his “look” and I really don’t like the fact that he’s essentially J. Jonah Jamison.
The guy who plays Jeremiah (Dean Cain?) was mediocre as a Superman (I thought he was waaaaaay too much of a pretty-boy to pull off the look) but I’m loving him as Danvers.
Finally, J’onn was 100% correct to test Alex like he did and he’s coming across as a snivelling wimp by apologizing for doing the right thing. (remember, she completely and utterly failed his very valid test)
*I do NOT want to get into the politics of it here, but almost no “pro gun” type will ever agree that a registry is even remotely sensible or reasonable.
I think it’s cute (at least so far) how the show is wearing its politics on its sleeve.
I agree with the above that J’onn was 100% right and he shouldn’t have apologized. Also the scene where he tricked her was very effective. It fooled me.
Regarding the question above about Batman and Superman: I know that at least some point Superman had Clark Kent and Superman robots to cloud the issue of them being separate people and I’m sure Batman had a plan since he had a plan for everything
Related story: there’s a fun bit in a Justice League episode where Lex Luthor takes over Flash’s body. He steps in front of a mirror and says, “Finally I reveal your true identity!” He pulls his mask off and says, “I have no idea who this is”.
Presumably those were Mon EL’s parents. Nice to see continued casting of old hero’s with Hercules as dad. Mom looked familiar, but I am too lazy to look her up - is she some old star?
Teri Hatcher, Dean Cain’s old co-star from Lois and Clark.
Some great stunt casting this season. They already had Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Now they’re adding Kevin Sorbo and Teri Hatcher. Additional no-spoiler Game of Thrones trivia: Tamzin Merchant, who plays Winn’s alien girlfriend, was the original Daenerys Targaryen in the never-aired GoT pilot.
So now Kara has no ties to CatCo. She was never a particularly competent reporter, but Snapper should really have done a better job of nurturing her. Cat Grant, if she ever comes back. would hit the roof.
They had Lynda Carter, too, but she’s only made the one appearance so far.
Yes, and the interesting thing about her appearance is that she seemed to be playing the President, but then at the end, after she’d signed the legislation allowing aliens on Earth, they showed her with glowing red eyes. I wonder when that shoe is going to drop–that such a controversial pro-extraterrestrial law was pushed through by an alien who stole the President’s identity. (I “wonder” if the real President is still alive somewhere. I foresee Kara rescuing her, and then she’s so grateful she allows the law to stand…)
Personally, I think Snapper had a point about Kara’s blog. How long before she’s back at Catco? (I thought Cat was going to make a few guest appearances on the show. Kara’s firing is the kind of issue that might bring her back.)
We haven’t seen Superman again since the beginning of the season, have we?
Every week in the opening monologue ![]()

I completely agree–she probably broke contractual rules when she set up her own blog in competition with the paper, but at the same time, Snapper was being an utter douche by changing his journalistic “standards” all of the sudden and only for Kara. (Where was the team meeting where he told all his reporters that suddenly he needs two independent sources? Why doesn’t Kara remember it? Or is he singling her out?).
Snapper also doesn’t understand what “on the record” means (it doesn’t mean that the interviewee will spill everything they know or are asked. It does mean that what they DO say can be published).
There are some things I really like about show… but my god the writing is STUPID STUPID STUPID.
So, Kara has this piece of really important news that she needs to get out in public so that other aliens will take precautions. But how can she do it? Her boss is being a stickler for journalistic precision.
Oh wait, that’s right, you’re SUPERGIRL, one of the most famous and respected individuals in the world. Just drop in on any national news broadcast and say “I, supergirl, have information to share” and you’ll instantly have your face on every TV in America. For fuck’s sake.
Also, J’onn’s entrapment of Alex didn’t make any sense, because even if she didn’t trust her dad, the right play for her would be to play along, and then report it to the DEO later (although I admit that I didn’t see it coming that that was J’onn… a rare actual surprise from this very predictable show).
And how did Alex know precisely which alien was going to be kidnapped next? And sure she’s a badass but come on, call for backup for god’s sake once you’ve beaten the odds and actually figured out where the Cadmus base is. She deserved to die for being such an idiot. She shouldn’t be aware that she has plot armor.
And how can it be remotely reasonable that entire functioning alien spaceships are so dime-a-dozen that Cadmus is willing to give one up entirely to provide passage off earth for a bunch of aliens they’d rather kill anyhow?
Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.
James is in charge of Catco during Cat’s absence isn’t he? Would he override Snapper’s firing of Kara? Or would he be accused of favoritism if he did?
Somehow I see Lena Luthor offering Kara a job with L Corp. I don’t know as what, exactly, but I can see Lena reaching out to her.
So exactly what was Supergirl pushing against to stop that spaceship? I guess that calls into question as to what provides her propulsion when she flies. And wouldn’t that have been a good time to say “hey Superman, a little help here”?
