Supergirl Season 2

Who was that lady who showed up at the end to talk to Lena? Was it Mon-El’s mom?

Yes,it was Rhea, played by Teri Hatcher

Brian

“Did I mention I’m a black belt?”

“Did I mention I was a Luthor?”

Great exchange. (And Luthors are known for punching above their weight class.)

Good episode.

What ruined it for me was Lena knowing what to do on the computer to make the bad lab creation self destruct. In general, any scene involving a computer ruins a show for me.

“Dragnet” is an example of a movie with gratuitous-Plummer-syndrome as I recall.

When the test subject said “Kara Danvers, we need to talk - you’re the only reporter I can trust,” my attitude was “You need to reconsider the life choices you’ve made.”

Snapper still sucks. The actor can’t manage the difference between “Gruff and Tough but With A Heart Of Gold” and “Total Dickwad Asshole”.

OK episode. Didn’t blow me away, didn’t piss me off (except for Snapper scenes)

Heh. Winn whistling “You’re my Super Friend” from the musical crossover. So does that mean the tune is actually a hit song on Kara’s Earth?

I guess we were overdue for a Very Special Episode involving don’t-call-me-Jimmy Olsen. What is his function in the show anyway? It’s not like Kara relies on him for anything. They don’t show him running CatCo. He doesn’t give any advice. He doesn’t even make any snarky comments. His part in this episode could have easily been given to Alex or J’onn or Winn or Mon-el; you know, characters that actually contribute to the show (yes, even Mon-el). Heck, Miss Tessmacher has a better-defined role than Mr Olsen.

All that being said, this was one of the more tightly-written episodes of the series, with both ‘A’-plot and ‘B’-plot actually being related to each other. Makes sense given that there are only two episodes left in the season.

Next week: Cat Grant returns!

Stuck on season one but a quick question: have they explained yet how Kara got her ears pierced?

Kara got her ears pierced as a child on Krypton.

Assuming Lena survives all this, who’s going to believe she wasn’t in on the invasion plan? And that could be something that tips her into supervillainy.

They showed Maggie firing a gun in the trailer. I wonder if she’s the one who kills (or at least incapacitates) Rhea.

I don’t see Mon-El staying on Earth after this. I think he’ll take Rhea’s place and lead his people somewhere else. Cat Grant may be the one who points out he should do this. For one thing, as I’ve said previously, if Mon-El isn’t the heir, who’s going to stop slavery on his world?

Wonder if the Foreans (or however that’s spelled) will help fight the Daxamites.

Yep, that was one of the three.

I call that same thing the “Murder She Wrote effect”.

I want to believe that’s how Columbo solved all his cases. “Sure, you out there in the audience saw him do it, and I didn’t – but I can see that he’s William Shatner.”

Daxamites can’t handle lead. Army rifles have lots of it. What’s so hard about beating them?

I have to admit, I didn’t see that coming. Nice job writers.
Other thoughts:
I thought the Daxamite’s problem wasn’t bullets so much as lead. Arguably, you could send them all to Flint (or based on some recent studies, just give them tap water from pretty much anywhere) & severely weaken (if not outright kill) them.
Poor Lena - every time she gets maternal approval, the mother in question turns out to be evil.
James makes no sense at all. Shouldn’t running a multi-media empire & fighting crime take up too much of your time to go around whining that people don’t like you enough?

Oh, it seems that there is a lot of “whining” going on in this show. I’d rather see some good action!

To be fair, Daxamites are super fast, and can probably dodge bullets pretty well - Rhea had the problem that she was at close range (giving her less time to dodge), and the gun was being held by someone with reactions as fast as hers (if she dodged before he fired, he could maintain an aim at her, which a human wouldn’t be able to do).

On Tvtropes it’s “Narrowed it Down to the Guy I Recognize” Narrowed It Down to the Guy I Recognize - TV Tropes

I wish that I got the impression from this show that the writers have a remotely coherent idea of how this earth actually works, particularly with respect to all the aliens who are there, how they ended up there, how they speak English, etc.

Were Marcus and his mother just living normal lives in a normal house with a job and stuff? If so, then the moment she showed up on TV a dozen tips should have come in saying “yeah, that’s Edith, here’s her address”. Even ignoring the clumsiness of using Aliens as metaphors for whatever political issue needs a metaphor, there’s just no feeling of a consistent backstory there.

Also, Winn can’t trace the cell phone call because of the amount of EM radiation? That’s… note remotely how that works.

I’ll give them a pass for “Lena randomly lets total stranger have completely override access to her experiment”, because that’s just standard comic book plotting stupidity.

And I’m very very sick of the old “someone is being mind controlled… so you just have to tell them to fight it, I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE, and they’ll overcome the mind control”. Why would that be how mind control works? Sheesh.

I saw this whole episode as a last ditch writer’s test for Jimmy Olsen to garner any fan appeal or show value. He fell flat, and my prediction is that he won’t return next season, he’s destined for an elevator shaft on the last episode.

James being able to talk down the alien boy didn’t make a lick of sense but was a sweet moment so it’s forgiven.
