"He visits a used car salesman who sells lemons. “Accidents waiting to happen, as Superman says. He then destroys every car on the lot.” " And that salesman, due to the loss of inventory, and Superman Smash being considered an “act of god” by the insurance company, loses his business and his home, and he and his family are forced to live on the street. In a good comic book world that salesman would turn his anger outward, and become the supervillian AutoMan, using car themed weapons to exact revenge on those who wronged him. In real life, he probably committed suicide, or died alone living in a van under a bridge down by the river. Man, Superman really is a dick, isn’t he? ---

Supes was a adult in 1938, thus arrived on Earth maybe before the Great War, immigration was a lot looser then. 😉 ---

Maybe… Things tightened up under Teddy Roosevelt through the Immigration Act of 1907, which was an attempt to stem the massive tide of immigration that the US saw at the beginning of the 20th century. If Clark Kent arrived as an infant before that act then he’d be in his 30s during his debut in Action Comics. I’m not sure if Siegel and Shuster intended him to be that old. It’s possible though. DC has always been really wishy-washy about timelines. It’s something they often either ignore or retcon. (Marvel is only marginally better themselves.) Honestly the only real answer to how old Superman is, is to ask how old the writer wants him to be in any particular story. ---

Some of the Superboy comics had episodes showing him at college (IIRC, that’s where he met Lori Lemaris), so that gives an approximate age for him. (OTOH, I’m pretty sure that some, maybe all, of the Superboy series were retcons.) ---

The earliest golden age comics show Kal landing on earth and spending time in an orphanage where his powers originally manifested, before being adopted by the Kents, and aging at a normal human rate. Assuming he’s at most 30 in 1938 (I could easily buy him being even younger, even just post college grad and starting new at the Daily Star, not the Planet which would come later) that would have him landing in 1908. Him landing anytime between 1908 and 1918 would fit the timeline I think. Of course this has no bearing on modern comics where heroes seem to be perpetually in their early to late 30s with a sliding timeline. The modern Superman probably landed sometime in the mid to late 1980s. ---

Heck the character X-man character Rogue seems to be aging backwards. She started off looking rather [matronly](https://uncannyxmen.net/sites/default/files/images/characters/rogue/rogue10.jpg) (by comic standards), in maybe her mid thirties.
