What would really be impressive would be if they were having to digitally brush him when he was dressed as Clark Kent as well. (I suspicion this is a planted story, incidentally- just really works too great as PR.)

I gotta say I think this is probly true. I’ve seen plenty of pics, and he’s just not that impressive.

Well, [here’s](http://www.ai.mit.edu/lab/olympics/99/cover/superman.gif) one of the comic book incarnations of Supes. [Here’s](http://www.fiftiesweb.com/superman-2.jpg) a colorized image of the costume from the 1950s TV series. And [here’s](http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/images/Reeve.Superman.Kidder.Lane.jpg) the Christopher Reeve Supes look. IMHO, Reeve’s costume is the best, but any of them look better than the current one.

I’ll tell you why this is even happening, other than it reflects the tenor of the times and Hollywood is blockbuster hungry.
If you look back at SDMB history, you’ll remember the earlier threads on the new Superman. Many posters thought he was too thin, too wimpy, too underendowed. I’m guessing millions may think this, when the movie airs. So consider this rumor Tinseltown’s, um, ham-handed attempt to establish whazzisname as a stud.
It ain’t working.

I don’t know what the answer is in the current continuity, but back in the Silver Age he sorta hand-pressured plastic from inside the capsule that brought him to Earth to make his boots. Being from Krypton and now on Earth, they were “super” and indestructable. Never heard anything about them cvoming from a homeless guy, ,let alone “fished out of a river”.
