“Let’s Star Trek IV this bitch!” I’m liking the episode, but it seems like they didn’t have enough to do in the past, so they made up Castiel’s storyline to fill time. ---

This show has somehow completely flown underneath my radar-I think I once caught snippets of an ep. once, and it didn’t impress me at all (looked completely hokey), but I caught a couple of reruns today, followed by the new ep., and I might have found something to sink my teeth into (uh erm). Any recs on the best season to start watching (I assume it’s on Hulu or something)? ---

The main story-line gets going there and the show is solid throughout. ---

Great episode as usual. The bartender was pretty funny, especially when he commented on Dean’s change of cowboy hat (which really did look better on him than the original). I liked the interplay between Samuel Colt and Sam, where Samuel pretty much readily accepted time travel, Sam being a hunter and the other “impossible” facts. I really liked the ending scene where both Sam and Dean are dejected after failing to bring back the gun and the phoenix’s ashes; they hear a knock on the door and Sam opens it to find the box thoughtfully sent back by Samuel Colt containing what they needed. Sweet!!! ---

A few too many BTTF references (Clint Eastwood and the package specifically), but had its moments. No spoiler since it’s conjecture only: are Castiel and Raphael “faking” a war somehow? Last episode seemed like they were allies and Rachel stumbled onto something big. And why would they be faking hostilities? ---

I liked the ep, but it was kinda weird that they cooked up this wacky time travel adventure without first asking Cas if maybe he knew if there were any phoenixes still hanging around. Just a line or two could’ve covered it. “Hey Cas, we need some phoenix ash” “Sorry, they’ve been extinct for 150 years” “Yeah, about that…” Saw the ending coming quite a ways off, when Colt didn’t hand Sam back his phone after examining it. Also, seemed a bit too soon after the last episode which also involved (mention of anyway) time travel. Loved that nasty skanky whore hitting on Dean, that was hilarious. ---

The fact that the real Samuel Colt was in Connecticut at this time feverishly producing arms for the Civil War, was a multimillionaire, and that he died young (48) only a few months after last night’s episode takes place make me wonder if the entire series exists in a parallel timeline to our own. For that matter, almost any town in Wyoming at the time would have been Mormon and thus unlikely to have whores or saloons. ---

I didn’t see the whole episode; I was called away for a 10 minute phone call right in the middle. I don’t remember seeing either Sam or Dean on horseback; did this happen? If so, did they look like they knew what they were doing or like they were going to get thrown off at any second? I agree with the hilarity about the skanky whore; Sam looked very amused as Dean was trying to back away. ---

I also like how they gave her yellow teeth and everything. I loved the BTTF reference at the end with the delivery man, very nice. Also Jim Beaver’s shout out to Deadwood was pretty good. This was a solid episode, but as much as the phoenix was a “monster” he didn’t really deserve to bite it. He really had a good point, those guys deserved it. ---
