I know I’m not the only Doper watching the delightfully cheesy goodness that is “Supernatural.” The season finale finally aired here last night, so I’m behind the times. What did you think? Did you like the ending? Surprised? Dismayed? I thought it was a good ending, though if it’s not renewed I’m going to bite someone. Oh, and how does Jensen Ackles get to be so sexy when I hate overbites? ---

You are not the only one. I love this show, and was overjoyed when they moved it to Thursdays so it didn’t conflict with House anymore. Thoughts… 1. I hate John Winchester. I don’t know if it’s the character, or the actor, or the writing, or all of the above, but I just. Cannot. Stand. Him. How I prayed for Sam to shoot him. How I yelled at the TV when he didn’t. 2. I can’t believe they did that to the Metallicar. Horrifying. I actually went :eek: :eek: :eek: 3. I admire the ingenuity used to catch Meg, but I thought they killed her and her brother off entirely too easily/quickly. That was disappointing. I was also disappointed we didn’t get more exposition on why the demon was killing off the kids like Sam- he specifically said “interfering with my plans for you and the kids like you” but just killing them off isn’t much of a plan, nor does it explain why he kills the mom so specifically or set the house on fire. Nor does it explain Jess. Does he rack up soul points with the manner in which he kills them? 4. I liked that Dean was the one who figured out John wasn’t John, and especially the reason _why_. “Dad would’ve been furious that I wasted a bullet.” Hee. 5. Is the GUN special, or are the BULLETS special? Everyone’s after the gun, but a huge deal is made out of the limited number of bullets. If it’s the gun, why can’t they make more bullets? If it’s the bullets, why does it matter what kind of gun they go in? If it’s both, what’s the problem with giving the demons the gun and keeping the bullets? 6. Jensen is god. If they had a spinoff on HBO where Dean and Sam found out they weren’t brothers and finally resolved the huge amounts of sexual tension between them, I would subscribe to HBO just to watch. And record. And re-watch. And watch again for good measure. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve yelled at the screen “Would you just KISS already?!?” 😃 I haven’t heard if they’ve renewed for next season, but since it’s the WB and they’re losing several “staple” shows at the end of this season, there’s no reason for them not to. I for one would like to see more of the black psychic lady. ---

I’d love to see more of her, though at the end Sam had surpassed her so perhaps the writers feel she would be redundant. Thanks for replying. I feel so vindicated! 😃 ---

LOVE this show. It fills the paranormal void left by the X-Files (for me, at least). This was one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen on television. Just when you think…then WHAM!!! The End. Brilliant. If there isn’t a next season, it would be an awesome finish. If there is, that would be just as good, but in a different way. I’m looking forward to the future of this show, whatever it is. ---

Okay, now I’m potentially moving into annoying post-twice-in-a-row-for-no-good-reason territory, but I did notice one thing… The mandala “trap” that was set for Meg is not actually from The Key of Solomon, as they mentioned. It seemed to be more an amalgamation of a pantacle from the KoS merged with elements of the Sigillum Dei Aemeth from John Dee’s Enochian magic discipline. …what? Am I the only one who, when confronted with a movie citing an occult work, jumps out of my chair and exclaims, “I’ve _got_ that book!”? ---

But I was all kinds of het up when they kept WALKING INTO THE SEAL. AUGH. Thank god it was on the ceiling- otherwise they probably would’ve smudged a line or something. Other random responses… I hope we haven’t seen the last of the psychic lady, even if Sam _has_ surpassed her. She was funny. Perhaps that’s where the boys will turn when (not if, please dear og not if) John winds up dead. I concur. And they need to get back the cute art girl from the creepy painting episode. Sure, the effects may be off somewhat, or the plots weird…but it’s just a fun show with fun people. Remember the 60’s silver “love nest” motel room? You can’t make stuff like that up. ---

I didn’t like the ending. It seemed to drag on into the one-climax-after-another syndrome. The writers should have had Sam shoot his father to kill the demon…then next season, you could start with Sam and Dean estranged, Dean hating Sam for killing their father, both of them adrift without purpose, when some paranormal crisis brings them back together. ---

One thing I don’t get… When they exorcised Meg… teh whole black smoke bit… Then they shot dad in the leg… hurts demon, doesnt hurt dad (or atleast not as much)… they do the same black smoke thing… yet the demon lives? Loved the ending… told the wife that if they didn’t renew it was because they couldnt afford to replace the car. I’ve heard that dad’s survival is fully dependant on contract negotiations… and they haven’t officially indicated a season 2 although its supposed to be fairly certian. My problem with the dad has been the last two episodes… they softened him up and his charector was disjointed…hopefully they’ll resolve it. But you know they couldn’t kill the ‘big bad’ at the end of the first season… it’s been the big premise for the whole show… kinda like catching the prisoner… once you do it’s kinda over. And personally, I prefer more of the one shot episodes… especially when the delve into the background of the badie of the week… all kolchak style. ---

I think the demon abandoned John’s body. It was hurt by the shot, and John could keep control for a little while, so it fled to find a new body–the truck driver. Meg’s demon was exorcised, so it didn’t have a choice. ---

I think the reason that Meg’s demon didn’t survive the exorcism was because it was exorcised inside that circle thingy. I thought the finale was great. The last third, with DemonDaddy was edge of the seat stuff. I really enjoy John, both the character and the actor, and I know people complain that he’s hard to get a handle on, but I think he’s \*supposed \* to be. I don’t think that we’re meant to \*like \* him. He does love the boys, but almost offhandedly… certainly not enough to spend his life actually parenting them, as opposed to just dragging them around on his demon-killing adventures (or enough to tend to his dying son rather than bitch that the demon got away). But I’m okay with that, because to me the show is about the family dynamic much more than the demon stuff, and I loved that the big showdown was much more about the boys issues with Daddy than with the demon. On a more shallow note, Daddy is hot. DemonDaddy is uberhot. I realize there’s something wrong with me. While I’m here I also have to credit Jensen Ackles with being a way better actor than a boy who looks like him needs to be. I’ve been impressed with him before, but I thought he was amazing in the finale. I started watching Supernatural because my daughter wanted to, but now we’re both completely addicted. The show is really way, way better than it has any right to be. ---

The most recent article I read on the WB/UPN merger confirmed that _Supernatural_ is one of the shows they’ll be keeping–and they’d better, is what I say. 🙂 This show turned out to be what the _Night Stalker_ remake should have been. I’m thirty years old, and I have to say that there have been a couple times I’ve been sorry I watched this show right before bed. :eek: And **Trion** hit the nail on the head–as if the show itself weren’t good enough, it’s got the best soundtrack on TV. ---

Show is a big hit with my 15 yr-old, but WB (Smallville, too) usually gets taped as we watch Survivor, Earl, and Office. Quite often I never get around to watching the tape. But I enjoy the interplay between the to brothers and the fact that they always manage to locate a balzing hot chick while fighting demons in the middle of Hicksville. But my daughter has brought this ep up in conversation at least 3 times. Suppose I’ll have to watch it. It’s not Buffy or Angel, but an enjoyable diversion nevertheless. I just HATE it when they put EVERY show I like to watch on at the same time, and then other nights have NOTHING I care to watch!
