Sure, our teeth are clean, but at what price?

Well, I’ve never had a very bad cleaning, except when they used that nasty baking soda and water spray, that not only tasted horrible but got baking soda all over my face (and probably clothes) as well.

Getting my wisdom teeth out wasn’t bad; they did it in-office & gave me pills to take for the general anasthesia, plus numbed me well - which was a good thing because the pills didn’t take affect until after I was back home. I knew the pills were taking affect because the tv had “Chitty Chitty Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Bang Bang” (a surreal movie when you’re sober) Put me out for a day. Had steak a week after the surgery.

The real fun happened just yesterday. I’ve already had one tooth abcess & require an emergency root canal, so Sunday night when I couldn’t sleep for the pain in my teeth, I knew I was going to have to go to the dentist. I did think it was better yesterday morning, until I gently bit down & jumped three feet out of bed. Went to the dentist & it turned out to be a tooth that I already had a root canal done on, so they had to dig it out. Now Osip won’t like me anymore :frowning: And the percodan is making me sick again.

You know, a good dentist and hygenist make all the difference in the world.

Time before last when I got my teeth cleaned, the hygenist bitched at me for not flossing, and I left the office feeling like someone had punched me in the mouth. Five years later, I finally get the gumption to go to a new dentist in Dallas.

No lecture, no nasty looks, just a good cleaning that left my teeth feeling slick and clean. The x-rays turned up two cavities that needed to be filled. I came back in a couple of weeks later, and the dentist was an absolute marvel. He explained exactly what he was doing, asked me to tell him when I was ready to proceed, made darn sure that I was so numb my face felt like it was sliding off my skull, and then got to the work over quickly and painlessly. I was only a little sore the next day where one of the shots went in.

Then, of course, I moved to California a week later, so I don’t get to see him anymore. sigh

Another genetic mutant. I only have 24 teeth total. I am missing my 16 year-old molars and my wisdom teeth. Now I know where my wisdom teeth went.

Have your next cleaning done at the vet. We knock our patients out cold.

I haven’t been to the dentist since I had my wisdom teeth out…oh…11 years ago, I think! I just picked up my job’s dental plan, so I am going to find a dentist soon. I am dreading it. I hate the x-rays the most.

And for the record, my wisdom tooth experience was not too bad. The worst part for me was that I react to anesthesia, and I was sick to my stomach for days after. I couldn’t take pain meds either, because they affect me the same way. Good thing I have a high tolerance for pain.
