Someone forwarded me this [link](http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/04/30/life.underwear.reut/index.html) to a story regarding a Vice Principal (female)who ordered a number of students attending a retro-themed school dance to submit to inspection of their undergarmets before being allowed to enter the dance to make sure that they weren’t wearing thong underwear. I think the teachers in question were getting a bit more out of this than the satisfaction of a job well done. Anyone more intelligent than a stick of pepperoni would recognize that submitting girls to an indiscrete and immodest search in order to ensure that they are dressed modestly is a bit surreal. ---

Don’t you know anything?!? Thong underwear can be used as a dangerous weapon! _They might’ve hijacked a plane with their thongs!_ Clearly, thongs represent a clear and present danger to the continued well-being of the United States, and we must do all we can to stamp them out of existence and execute all those who wear them. ---

dictating what we wear on the outiside has already come, with little opposition against it. now it’s whats under that that has to be inspected. i thought this was the land of the free. obviously not. soon we’re going to be told how to comb our hair and what types of deoderant and aftershave can be used. ---

Ok, to play Devils Advocate(and for the record I think the VP should be jailed), She probably did it becasue it was a retro dance(a la 1950’s I presume) and the dancing would be flinging the girls skirts up in the air(jump jive and wail!). Personaly, I would have liked to be there. ---

Thong underwear is indecent and dangerous. It could lead to dancing! I suppose the idea was, since this was a retro-themed dance, a certain amount of enthusiastic dancing and twirling was gonna happen, and they didn’t want female students mooning everyone when their poodle skirts spun up. Still, if they wanted to prevent that, they could have just as easily chaperoned the dance itself, kept a sharp eye out, and sent someone home if they were “flashing”. ---

If someone was **acting** inappropriately, then they would be perfectly within their rights to take corrective action. To take preemptive measures to inspect people’s underwear to even be allowed in the door is insane. And what about the bra-checks? Last I checked, flashing a naked bum is illegal, but since when did jiggling become a crime? And what about the toga-wearing guys? I have a hard time believing that some toga-wearing dude was going to pull a Marilyn Monroe over the heating grate with his toga. Sure, if he was commando, he could theoretically flash someone, but that goes back to the “deal with it if it happens” point. Yeesh. ---

Now, see, I’m having some trouble reading that page of the student handbook that CNN reproduces in its illustration, but after some squinting it appears to say the following: [quote] **DRESS CODE** School clothing, should be neat, clean, appropriate for school activities, and follow the standards of common decency and safety. Poor girls, they must have been shy. What they needed was someone to not wear \anything\ under their skirt, and pull it down when they asked to see, and then streak down the hallway or something (with clothes hidden nearby or a good hiding place to run to). \ Sometimes I wish I was still in high school. FWIW, we had to wear uniforms, but I always unbuttoned my shirt that extra button up at the collar. I’m a wild one, alright… ---
