Why, he will lose the support of the Hispanic community! I have to admit, I’ve gone full cynic. I hope everyone who voted Trump gets exactly what they asked for. Yeah but it’s no longer the president’s fault. Now it’s the fault of…I dunno, diverse chickens? ETA: I’m aware that in neither the last or current administration does the president have much to do with the egg price, only if they affect indirect things like farm labor or how the bird flu epidemic is being tackled. ---

Fortunately the Trump administration is on track to \< check notes \> remove all agencies and regulations relating to both food standards and safety and public health, so bird flu should be dealt with swiftly via the “don’t test for it and don’t ever mention it” method of pandemic management. ---

Not nothing, actually. If the FDA and CDC and other federal agencies responsible for health and food safety are gutted, we could very well end up with semi-permanent higher egg (and other food) prices. A normal, responsible President has limited ability to dramatically and quickly improve an economic situation, but an incompetent one can certainly dramatically and quickly ruin an economy. ---

I recently read (on the internet!) that the main feeling that Germans had about WWII and its aftermath was not shame that Hitler had led the country to commit monstrosities on a global scale, but shame simply that they had ventured all, and lost. It’s not a popular subject there, even now. ---

It is a common mistake made by the right in this country-that because you can now get away with things you couldn’t get away with before, that automatically transfers those actions from the “wrong” column to the “right” column…morals and ethics be damned. ---

Shame about WWII is almost a national hobby. I have more to say on this but I don’t want to hijack the thread. And anyway, if your point is just that cultures can deemphasize atrocities and maybe focus on the wrong lesson then that’s of course true. ---

The obvious bottom line is that it doesn’t matter what really happened. Because there are two “official” scorekeepers out there turning in two very different scoresheets. Depending on where one gets their info, they’ll get one scoresheet or the other. Welcome to post-reality reality. ---
